I don't disagree that he was powerless at the time. My point is that his feet shouldn't have touched the ground after the match. There should be appropriate sanction against him. My point is that his position as leader, strategist and organiser of the group that is the Chelsea playing squad is made impossible and untenable by this act of subordination. His authority has been successfully challenged and he's backed down without a whimper. He needed to reassert his authority and he hasn't done it. Being fined a week's wages and being made to apologise doesn't cut it for me. He needed to be dropped for the rest of the season to make a point. As a football fan, I'm seething that he could do what he did and get away with it. By their handling of this situation, Chelsea FC has let down the whole of football.There was nothing he could do.
He could not enter the field of play and physically haul the player off.
If anything,the Chelsea captain should have quickly weighed up the situation and acted accordingly .
Blaming the manager ,in this instance,is showing complete disregard for the reality of the situation,given the laws of the game.
