It beggars belief that having owned Chelsea for 19 years Abramamovich has done so little to develop the clubs structure that they rely on him for monthly handouts to pay the wages.

Unfortunately the millionare players have posh lawyers and water tight contracts , lets see if the less selfish ones take a pay cut to save the staff
 
What does suspending sponsors actually mean they ain’t paying them another penny or they ain’t going to continue with the sponsor and the name will be no where around chelsea?
 
At the present time Abrahovitch cannot take any money out of Chelsea.
Why are people up in arms about Nike not stopping their sponsorship ?
Why have 3 pulled out ? When a bloke aligned to Putin ran the closed fair do's but not anymore. Support Chelsea fc not Abrahovitch.

Or make the club a huge loss maker to make him pay for his putin support. He needs to be financially crippled and this is a small part of it
 
For 20 years the morally bankrupt premier league took Romans money and now all of a sudden it is dirty. The premier league is a cesspit. Chelsea should not be punished.

I guess the Rags/Scousers/Spurs/Arse have written a letter and see an opportunity to reclaim a position in the league. Who put master in charge? Stinks.

Roman is a dubious character but his actions should not be dumped on the club imo.

I'm not 100% certain, but probably Chelsea can't use the sponsorship money.

Exactly.

They knew who he was when he bought the club, but the wet finger in the air says something else now…and here we are.

Abramovich has already said he doesn’t want his money back, so let the club function, allow a sale to go through and distribute the proceeds accordingly.

What “accordingly” means is up for debate, but don’t punish the working man for actions far beyond his control.

And, while we are at it, maybe it’s time to review the PL’s fitness criteria for team ownership?!

Spot on.

The Premier has now decided that Saudi money is not as dirty as Russian. They will take it until world politics dictate a change down the line. The premier is run no different than a loan shark.

The government has no right dictating morals to anyone. Party gate, bullying, Russian money etc. Maybe it’s time for a change at the top. Fuck them all off and sanction each individual member of parliament.

He was always a dodgy character but as you say a blind eye was turned for his cash. The same with all the Russian billionaires pumping money into property , businesses oh and the conservative party allegedly.

Chelsea fans on the whole are a horrible bunch although I do know a couple of decent ones. They shouldn't be punished as a fallout to this awful situation. Boot out Abramovich but let the club get back to normal again asap.

To be fair, pretty much the whole Western world has decided that Saudi money isn’t as dirty as Russian money, not just the Premier League. And that’s all down to Putin’s Russia invading Ukraine. If he hadn’t done then there wouldn’t be much of an issue, if any.

We can argue about the rights, wrongs, and contradictions of taking Russian money over the past couple of decades but this isn’t about punishing Chelsea - it’s about punishing those close to Putin and putting the squeeze on. You won’t find many people disagreeing with imposing sanctions on these people and the government have actually been favourable to Chelsea in allowing them to still operate. If they weren’t a football club, they wouldn’t be afforded that luxury.

Fair enough and and agree with a lot of the points raised. I don’t agree that the Government is doing Chelsea a favour. The conservatives have handled this situation appallingly. Chelsea is an English institution and for the good of the club going forward should have allowed it to be sold. Placing sanctions will destroy the clubs image and that is not right on the fans. Who will have to deal with this fallout for many years.

Sanction the man not the club.

Heard an Arsenal fan on 606 earlier gloating about what has happened to Chelsea FC and how he "gets up every morning and is thankful for his clubs ownership model" ............
