Director of recruitment: for senior players.

Probably interested in getting our talented 19-24 yo players but we were always going to have that problem where the kids are going to have to decide of staying at City or getting more game time elsewhere.

If anything he won't be scouting kids personally for the academy level.

And honestly it is natural to want to progress in life and get a promotion and the next level job vs staying in a dead end job.

I'm sure City appointed someone good for recruitment or they'll replace them.

Yeah Chelsea already have a head of academy who oversees recruitment for the academy. Sounds like this guy is coming in to be the head of recruitment overall for the club.

Regarding the bolded, that is a problem Chelsea and most other big clubs have. Striking the balance between providing legit pathways for academy players and creating a team that can challenge on all fronts is very hard.

Yeah and its natural to like Lavia but he was sent to Southampton to prove himself as a healthy starter over 2 years.

The talent is clearly there but so is his injury record.

Shields going there will mean they’ll come sniffing at our academy/EDS the same way Southampton did in the Summer. Surprised it’s taken so long for clubs to come after our staff given our recent success.

They already went after Lavia on deadline day so no doubt they’ll try again with the Shields connection. Hopefully the club are right in their supposed trust that players have a loyalty to us and will want to come back (like Barca did/do).

Maybe, but don’t they have their own super-duper academy?

Our top talents have already mostly left too, haven't they?

or he isn't as highly thought of as the current chief scout at City?
We haven’t done too badly on that score tbf. Akanji for a quarter of what the odd lot paid for Tattoo from Fantasy Island a case in point
Shields obviously knows his stuff but he’s clearly too ambitious or impatient to stick around waiting for a more senior job to come up at City
Regarding Lavia, a talent for sure but we are well protected with buybacks, first refusal and a sell on clause
He has only played a handful of senior games and a somewhat chequered record of injuries. He could go either way

Providing legal pathways, didn't chelsea get banned for illegal pathways :)

Any young player will have the same situation at Chelsea because they will still buy first teamers..
They do seem to be going down the predator route, look at the lad they tapped up from Villa this summer.
That said it’s nothing new, they have previous eg Sturridge from us more than a decade ago, he was relentlessly tapped up for a year beforehand
We’ve almost certainly done the same tbf

Yep it’s dog-eat-dog in the football world all we can do is what we doing now be there best run club we can and treat our players with the upmost respect..

Why would a player choose a club because of any personal relationship with the head of recruitment?
You have no day to day interaction.

Yeah, Haaland actually thought he was getting a signed photo of Txiki. Things all got lost in translation but he seems happy now.

As a southern based blue I was glad for him when he got the saints job and he took a massive gamble on lots of out guys. Watching Saints they have been a breath of fresh air to a setup that needs change. You can’t really blame him for taking the chance to go to Chelsea, it’s been a big year for him. I wish he stayed at saints longer, I wish him all the best at Chelsea.

Five wins in a row for Potter. It wasn't a great performance yesterday but glad to see we're able to secure a win from an average performance.

Hope we can keep this run going through to the world cup.
