How is it unnecessary? It performs an important job in conveying a specific idea.
Not really. It could be removed completely and not make any difference to the meaning of the sentence unless you were using it to convey that the time period was in fact 6 or 8 days as that would be 'like' a week but not actually a week.

It's a thing that bugs me. The message is conveyed perfectly well when the unnecessary word is excluded.
See the thread "Things that bug you" in the Off Topic forum.

Make sure you beat the scouse vermin on the 25th Feb.

I was trying to say that it’s been about a week, not sure exactly, could have been slightly more or slightly less lol. The word like conveys that feeling perfectly.

Re; the league cup final. We’ll certainly do our best. It would be a lovely goodbye from us to Klopp if we beat them.

That’s exactly it. You got it.

Just been having a look at Cole Palmer's stats for the season. Taking away penalties he has 6 goals in all competitions. Those 6 goals have come against United, Luton, Sheffield United, and Middlesbrough. So that's a shite United team (in a game they lost), two teams in the bottom three, and a Championship side.

For a supposedly generational attacking threat in team assembled to the tune of £1bn he's not really done much to suggest we're missing him, has he? Genuinely had no idea just how many penalties he'd been gifted this season. Last night was another example of him being trusted as an attacker in a big game and producing next to nothing.

Lots of people (on this forum and elsewhere) are willing our sale of him to be a mistake but apart from pirouetting on the edge of the area and looking a bit pretty and scoring a few penalties I don't really see what he's doing that means we'll regret getting rid of him. He'll have a good career but was never on our level and probably never will be.

In fairness to him, am i right in saying he's scored more than anyone at City ( apart from our two strikers) ?

I’d put Palmer’s penalty vs City up against almost any other goal scored by any other player this season and think Palmer’s penalty requires more bottle, technique and composure.

Dissecting his game like that only happens here, because I guess some City fans do not like the attention he’s been getting at his new club. It’s the only explanation I can think of why some would go out of their way like this to try and diminish the impact he’s had this season.

He’s also had 7 assists btw.

Good player for a mid table team.
Has found his rightful place.
Not good enough for City, other than as a squad player.

You keep saying that penalty is worthy of some special treatment yet it was just a penalty.
He’s a professional footballer, bottle and pressure is all part and parcel of it.
Plus Ederson hasn’t saved a penalty since he was about 12..

It is because it was a special penalty. You can downplay it or diminish it if you want but that's how I feel about it.

I know, you’ve said it a few times and I still disagree that it was a better goal than any other scored this season.
It’s fucking nonsense.
