Then you know it was far far away from your worst season ever.
How do you figure that?

If you're going to mention seasons from many moons ago, my opinion as a life long fan is that it's relative to the level you've attained in recent years.

I've heard many times of late people saying 'you were worse in the eighties'.

But we were not at a top level then. We played to our level, pretty much.

Last season was a fall from grace the likes of which I've never seen before.

Can't see them getting top 4. They're going to have to drastically improve, as they were pure shite in the last campaign. And also hope that one of last season's top 4 regresses. And I just don't see it with that team/squad.
I'd be the first to admit that top 4 is a big ask for this young group. For me it's a target purely because of where Chelsea have expected to be in the last 20 years.

What we've done in shipping out so many experienced players and replacing them with very young prospects is high risk.

But many Chelsea fans, myself included, would argue that something big had to be done. We've not been at a truly top level since 2017, a few highlights aside.

We had the same thing when Allison came back to the club. Difference being, the team he ripped apart was a bloody good side. I dread to think how many years he set us back.

That must have been difficult to swallow.

For us we were so abysmal last season, with players who obviously had already decided mid-season they were off elsewhere (Mount, Havertz, Kovacic, Pulisic etc.) that the risk vs reward for us actually makes more sense I think.

We'll see. You had a lot of deadwood in that side, so it's likely that you will improve, as you're starting from (for you) a low point. And some of your buys haven't worked out yet (Sterling and Cucurella spring to mind straight away). But the ground you have to make up to get to the cash cow that is the CL is huge. And I'm not sure you can do it in one season. Will Boehly be patient with Poch?

I hope so. If we continue to improve and gel as a team but miss out on top 4 I think that should be seen as acceptable. Maybe making the Europa places would be more realistic.

As fans we just have to accept that what's happened to us since Putin invaded Ukraine has been seismic, and we just have to rebuild as a club who are not now where we've been so used to being.

And talking of Putin, we also have to remember that there's far more important things to consider than the fate of a football club.

Why do people keep forgetting its a top five for champs league this season!? Football fans should know this
