Children’s ages for holidays

Since when was self certification of illness for the first 7 days abolished for schools?
Tell them to fuck off.

My company tried it on a few years ago, saying anybody going sick over Christmas needed a sick note, even for one day.

One of the lads was actually mates with a GP and he wrote the top boss a letter explaining the reasons why doctors don’t issue sick notes for for the first week of sickness and can he inform his managers to stop requesting them. All when quiet on the matter after that.

But of course your employer is in a position where they can just not pay you if they decide not to. Don’t know what power a school thinks they have if you tell them to get fucked?

I’m not sure what you are trying to say. I can take my child out of school, if I wish, for 5 days every 10 school weeks without being fined.

Just to add, assuming I’ve read the rules correctly, my original point was I found that pretty lenient.if there are 39 school weeks, if I space the time off right I could take my child out of school 4 x 5 days for a total of 20 days in one school year without getting a single fine.

Not sure if there are different rules in different places but where I live, that wouldn't be correct.
If you go on holiday for 5 consecutive school days you would be fined.

I think that those National rules means that local authorities have to issue fines if there are more than 5 days absence in a 10 week rolling period, but some local authorities can decide to make their own stricter rules if they want. But they can’t have rules that are not as strict as the National ones.

Do you have a link that shows it's more than 5 days and not 5 days?

They'd have to have good grounds to. They wouldn't just be able to do that without a reasonable explanation and some evidence and get away with it in an employment tribunal.

If they want to run that kind of system they can buy into an occupational health scheme offered by Bupa etc.
