Christian Benteke

Re: Benteke

I have been banging the Benteke drum since he joined Villa. He has everything to be a top class player. Aston Villa are absolutely woeful and create very little. Despite this Benteke has still got a few goals under his belt. Put him in a decent team with regular supply from midfield and he would flourish.

You're guessing and we can't take chances any more.

How do we know Cavani will adapt? How do we know Falcao will adapt?

We don't is the answer you are looking for.

Nothing is certain and whilst Benteke is a million miles away from Falcao/Cavani in their respective leagues, he has the fundamentals of an excellent premier league player and is showing this most weeks in a very poor team with limited creativity.

Who said I wanted either Cavani or Falcoa or that was the only choice? And when you said 'nothing is certain' - it was as close as possible to certain that RVP would be. BA was another.

Why would we buy Benteke - i dont see the reasoning at all? We can afford the best proven strikers in the world and if we want to win the CL then thats what we have to aim at.
IF (and its a huge IF) Benteke proves himself over the next two Seasons then we can make a move - but let them 'bring him on' first.

Re: Benteke

He's too inconsistent at the moment, his touch and finishing is erratic. He'd be good for most of the teams in the division though.

No idea if he's just going be one of those players, or if he'll improve, i'd wait until he has another couple of seasons under his belt.

I never said you wanted either Cavani or Falcao, hence 'we' and not 'you'.

I highlighted those two in particular as they are the most discussed forwards on here. Buying a Falcao/Cavani/anyone outside the Premier League represents a gamble to an extent. Especially with the figures being touted.

Van Persie and Ba were both scoring goals in this league for lesser clubs. The gamble was incredibly limited. In fact, in Ba's case there wasn't really a gamble at all. A mid 20's player who's scored goals for mid table teams available for 7mil when you have a misfiring 50mil striker? No brainer. The only gamble with Van Persie was his injuries.

Why would we buy Benteke? FFP. Young. Bags of ability/potential. Scoring in England. Already having three proven strikers at the club. Etc.

Re: Benteke

Get him but only if we sell Dzeko, Tevez or Balotelli, i really rate the lads potential think he will become a top striker he just need to smooth out afew edges. He has everything in his locker plus the right attitude and work rate.

Re: Benteke

Reading some of these comments, it appears some folk would never have had City signing Goater!

Look, Benteke is far from the finished article but he's young and has plenty of potential, and he's shown his ability to score in a very poor team. If City happened to sign him, he would be one for the future rather than as a ready made replacement for any of our present strikers. In years gone by, Liverpool used to sign up young players of high potential and these players were stuck away in the reserves for a year or so before letting them loose on the rest of the league, and it never did that club any harm. I'm sure that our coaching staff would be capable of ironing out any flaws in Benteke's game in a similar way if City ever signed him up.
