I pay my non smoking staff 2 hours pay more per week

Top idea that !

Yep.

Better still Dont allow CIG breaks,you'll be doing them a favour.

Will you be banning staff from having a shit or brewing up?....seriously though no real time difference in brewing up or having a smoke.

Are you actually arguing that smokers don't shit or have brews?

Nope.......you go for a shit,I go for a smoke.

Yes, but, unless the person going for a shit isn't very hygienic, you can't tell he's been for a shit.

A smoker, on the other hand, still reeks of tobacco.

Haha,it's an argument that's gone on for years and will never go away......the point I'm making is,I might have 3 brews a day,you might have 6,I might have 1 shit a day,you might have 3...I may need to take 1 phone call you may need to take 4......the argument about "minute pinching" is endless.

I never go for a shit in works time so your answer is just wrong

Smokers do the same as everyone else and still want extra breaks for their fags

I wonder how many of the people moaning about smoking breaks spend half of their working day on here chatting bollocks. Anyway, in my experience, non-smokers are just as likely to skive off. They just go and make a cup of tea instead.

should double the VAT on cigs. what an earner that would be. might go some way towards the cost of heathcare due to smoking.

The tax on fags is most likely the only thing that is still paying for the NHS. It's no coincidence the inevitable privatisation of our current healthcare system will happen at the same time cigarettes are being faded out.

Depending on your work environment there's plenty of ways to "skive off". In my office, I know managers who have sent people out to bring in the free newspapers, buy ice creams in the summer, bacon sarnies on a Friday morning, biscuits for when there's a meeting, pick up train tickets etc. How much work is taking place when there's a workplace sweepstake, people updating their fantasy football team or attending a leaving presentation?

In terms of people working solely in front of a VDU, the suggestion from the HSE is as follows:

short, frequent breaks are more satisfactory than occasional, longer breaks: e.g., a 5-10 minute break after 50-60 minutes continuous screen and/or keyboard work is likely to be better than a 15 minute break every 2 hours;

Obviously peoples work circumstances are different, but as long as people are not being unreasonable with the time they take, I don't see what the fuss is.
