Not me. I don’t think the black kit is anything special but then I don’t really like wearing black tops, it doesn’t look right when you’re pale with grey hair.

Disclaimer: I might change my mind when I see it in real life.

I see it’s the time of year when a shitty leaked photo of a sweatshop knockoff causes everyone to get very worked up about a kit that’s 90% the same as every other City home kit.

And then the legit version is released in July, photographed properly and worn by players and it looks fine.

Poor effort that the collar is a completely different design on the 'replica' shirt compared to the 'authentic' shirt.

They don’t actually call the ordinary one a “replica” anymore I notice -which is just as well

Wasn’t that cross used during the Crusades? It might have been slightly insensitive to our Arab owners.

If you look at it again, it could be an image of looking up a chimney with four crows sat on the corners.

But being serious for a change, I actually find the cross pattée quite symbolic with the nazis. It does trace its history back to the Teutonic Knights hence why they revived it, but it doesn’t appear that any other crusaders used that style, and even the Teutonic Knights did so sparingly.

The flag of Georgia uses a design similar to the Jerusalem Cross and their religious demography consists of 10% Islam.

I thought something similar but I think you've got to bear in mind that's a Christian cross and we're owned by Muslims. All the official marketing blurb only refers to "our earliest known kit" from when the "Club was based in Gorton". Not a single mention of St Mark's anywhere.

I think it's a "Maltese Cross", on the original.

The crusaders were on the Island of Malta, during the crusades. I seem to remember going round a church when on holiday there in 1981.

but that black one is a thing of beauty, i turn 60 in a little over a month and i'm definitely getting one with 60 on the back. no name. special shirt for a special year. thank you city.

i might get the home one with 60 too, but that's just a nice shirt. not a special one.

More likely to do with trademark issues i.e. we wouldn't have one so wouldn't be able to stop knockoffs.

Why would they make the collar different on the player shirt?

So that some fans feel obliged to play the extra to get the same shirts as the players. And so that you can clearly tell the more expensive version.

It's horrendous really. There is no world where an £85 shirt should be viewed as "the cheap option".

Away - the red and white diagonal stripes appeared on the lower back of the authentic. The replica was just plain black.

Third - the faded hoops across the chest were continued on the back for the authentic. The back of the replica was just plain.


I want to get an authentic at some point as the sales at the end of the season are pretty big, but not while they're using that shitty Ultraweave material.

I’d say this one is worse though as it really changes the look of the shirt (to my eyes at least)
