City’s wasted talent

Michael Johnson all day. What a player to watch. Absolutely loved him.

Stevie is another one, what a player he was.

Celina was another one, anytime I’ve seen him play he’s been brilliant.
Celina is a shout, always seemed like he could be a real player if he just upped the intensity a bit. Certainly had the talent and the confidence. Although maybe he just seemed brilliant compared to the abject performances of the rest of the team in Pellegrini's last few months.

Swansea sold him in the summer to Dijon, so you know he's mustard.

Jason Denayer. We were crying out for a solid defender who could play out from the back and add some pace & power. He had a great season at Celtic, on par with VVD. He played well for Galatasary but got shifted out to RB and had a bad injury. Then we sent him to a piss-poor Sunderland team.
Sunderland was a terrible loan club for him, he was thrown under the bus

Michael Johnson - People forget the injuries that were the start of his problems. A real shame.

Joey Barton - I actually think he played at the peak of his level. Yes he was an arsehole and he might have had bigger clubs sign him if he wasn't. But I think that he had a determination and will to get to the top that was just off the charts for the average player - a bit like a Roy Keane type just mentaly different / bordering on not right. Most likely both would end up in prison if not in football.

Denayer - Has done well, might be a top class player in a another year or two. But not one for us.

Need to be careful when judging a “wasted talent” some of the people were calling out had issues we were unaware of and not thereby qualified to judge them.
Some were not wasted talents in terms of careers but for whatever reason they didn’t or weren’t allowed to blossom at city, Colin Barrett, Tony Towers, Ian Bowyer.
My take on a wasted talent is someone who made a conscious decision that they wanted more out of life than just totally fulfilling the heights their talent could have got them to, for me Stan Bowles is the prime example if we are talking players who we developed rather than signings.
The 2 stand outs if calling out signings have to be Rodney And Mario

City broke promises made to him, apparently to keep the useless Mangala happy after he refused to go out on loan.

Jason realised that he would always be a 'pawn' at City, and jumped on the first bus that came along with a full contract... Unfortunately, that bus was headed to Sunderland.

Jason had a great partnership with VVD at Celtic - we could have had both of them, but Txiki obviously didn't see the potential.

I was told that VVD's decision NOT to come to City was influenced in part following a conversation with Jason about his experience at the club.

Thought Sunderland was another loan?
