City agree fee for Jack Rodwell

This lad was tipped for great things and was hailed as the best young English player around, especially when united were linked with him.

Soon as we get him, people seem to be putting knockers on it. He had a quite year last year, but this was because he was injured.

I'm proper chuffed with this signing. Good young player, who has talent and has played in this league for a few years already.

Agreed I honestly can't believe we have just spent 15m whatever it is, when it could of gone towards a world class player that is going to start. What's the point in having a youth team. This signing is only going to effect players like razak & Suarez development into the first team.
2008 youth cup winners, great little team, no chance of development. If we don't give them a chance, nobody will come here in the future. Thats my worry. No need to attack opinion that dont match your own kid...
"If I can, I give young players a chance. I was just 16 when I first played in Serie A. "
Mancini obviously has enough faith in our younger players to give them the time he did in pre season, and if he feels they're good enough and ready for the league then I'm sure he'll give them a chance.

Rodwell is 21, good enough and prem proven with bags of potential so the least you could do is give him a chance as well.

So the club shouldn't also spend money on potential?
I believe its obvious this toffee reserve is not and will not be good enough. Ross barkley has potential...
You can make that sound decision and comparison after Barkley's 6 games?

Why aren't you our manager?
some players standout. Natural talent. No need for the abuse. Ots just opinion.

-- Tue Aug 14, 2012 10:25 pm --

Either krol is an Evertonian on the wind up, or a rag who is dissapointed we nicked a player who they could of got for a good price, instead of chasing Moura and RvP.

think hes a city fan

I hold my hands up with this one if he is legit. Back to the topic, Mancini had know of Rodwell even before he took charge of City. This is his signing and he stands or falls on this signing.

I take it then you have seen each of Barkley's appearances as well as Rodwell's?

We've been the breadwinners of the youth transfer market for the past 18 months. Building world class youth facilities and helped pioneer a Euro Youth CL. The favt is we are light in players aged 20-23.
exactly. A long gap between richards as an example and the present. Itd worrying no doubt about it...

I don't understand the abuse. There are plenty of idiots on here calling for players to be bought like they are shopping from an argos book. The academy side and more importantly progression into class competing footballers is important. Look at chelsea. No youth break thru since terry (1998). Bertrand will be gone next. If we spend money then it has to be on class.

No abuse, and I apologise if you are a blue. But I hold Mancini's judgement way above my own and anybody else's on this forum. Our Academy will serve us well once we have sorted it out.

Good post.

Notice alot of rag media are ripping this kid alot, talking about how shit he is now... a quick google search on Rodwell on articles a few seasons back and the same journalists when talking about Rodwell signing for The Rags - are hailing him as the savour.

I don't think this is a Mancini signing, but neither was Kompany, know what I mean?
He'll be given game time and hopefully will shine through as he's English and from Southport?? aswell, so localish.

Good luck to him, hopefully he can shift his injuries and the rotational policy will aid with this.
