City and corners

I honestly thought we had put this behind us at the beginning of the season, but we appear to have reverted to type.

As someone has already mentioned, it seemed last night the Leicester defence had no issue conceding so many corners as they didn't think we would offer any threat from them.

Whatever happened to the chap who used to go and watch the training sessions and then report back on here? Neil McNab's tash or something? Get him reinstated and let's get him going to the CFA and reporting back on what they actually do in training!

Only our Centre backs and Bony, when he plays, are a threat from them..That plus the fact that they are almost always out-swingers doesn't help.

I mean we have Fernandinho(maybe a few from corners in the past?) and Sagna(5 goals in 446apps) in there for them.

As other people said the delivery was not that bad, but Leicester where bigger and stronger. Barca under Pep probably had potentially some of the best dead ball delivery available however they normally opted for a short corner with the ball then played to the edge of the box to make an attacking play as opposed to a cross as he knew the other team would dominate regardless of the delivery. I think we should try something like this at time, also if you see KDB at Wolfsburg he scored a couple vollying from the edge of the box from a corner, a tactic United also use to do with Scholes. Last night we must have had 12/13 corners would we have really lost anything by trying something different.

The outswingers I feel must have been to try and stop Schmichael collecting the ball and launching a counter attack.

They just don't seem to be treated as a serious set-piece... which they should be. It tends to be, whoever is near the ball, you take it, lets see what happens. We should have set corner takers and numerous routines. I assume top teams work on this a lot in training, like you say, it's a great chance to score.

Some players whip it in so dangerously, any touch and it's in. We seem to tap it to the near post or float it slowly to the far.... too easy!

I thought De Bruyne's corners were excellent. We were looking dangerous earlier this season when we had Kompany and Otamendi attacking the corners. Bony is also very good in the air.

Won't be long before The Mangler is on the end of one. I cannot understand why we don't vary the usual outswingers with the occasional inswingers. Inswingers put the onus and pressure on the defence.
