City are very close to a tipping point.

I saw this story this morning whilst over at relatives (funnily enough only talking about this possible development over a beer yesterday).
Seems to have been pumped up yesterday following yesterday's result and City's standing in the table.
An absolute non story considering what's been in the press already. Someone (again) has been reading this forum and have cut bits and bobs out of it, added a pic of (the quite photogenic, almost David Schwimmeresque) Shiekh Mansour and then a large pic of CoMs, and hey presto - breaking news!

I am sorry but what I am saying is more than one element.

More than results, more than a stadium, more tha a hotel or indeed a winning team.

What I am on about wont wait for a trophy either its about changing the way City are and how football is seen and experienced.

Its not about a snippet in the Mirror or the MEN as these people dont ahve any clue about what City is about to become.

Unfortunately I dont think many fans can see it yet either ;-)

Oops - sorry Fbloke, this wasn't directed at you more the Mirror story...which is a tiny morsel of what has been discussed on this very forum over the past few weeks/months- non news for us lot is what I meant.

I appreciate that not everyone shares the vision I have in mind. A

And perhaps it is somewhat ideolised, but I think the vision I espouse will be closer to the ultimate product of the board and owner we currently have.

There is plenty of talk about the Sheikh being just another businessman but I wholeheatedly disagree.

You will hopefully note that I havent given a time frame for this but I will now put my head on the block and say that within 3-4 years things will ahve changed dramatically.

Do not worry fbloke I understand what you are talking about (at least I think I do)

What makes Barcelona special is not the fact that they play beautiful football, nor the fact that La Masia is the best youth academy in the world, it is because they are a symbol of Catalunya, of the struggle for self-identity. It is no surprise that two of their most successful managers in recent history (Cruyff, Guardiola) have been fierce advocates of the Catalonia national football team. Barcelona are special because they are “Més que un club" (More than a club) and their players understand its significance.

While we cannot just replicate this model (we do not have the same history, tradition, and as far as I am aware Manchester does not want independence), Sheikh Mansour does intend to revolutionise football. You may not like it but City is a project and a high-profile one at that. It cannot be allowed to fail (evidenced by the presence of Khaldoon Al-Mubarak* as Chairman), just like the F1 track in Abu Dhabi could not be allowed to be delayed (in just 22 months a desert island was transformed into the most incredible F1 circuit ever conceived with a world-class trackside marina, 7 hotels were built including the first ever hotel to map a circuit and the body work for Ferrari World (largest indoor theme park in the world) was completed)!

Damocles about the free tickets point, it is true that entry is free of charge for Sheikh Mansour’s club Al-Jazeera but it is not politically acceptable for the same to happen at City. The Royal Family are not just figure-heads in the Gulf, they are the government and their loyalty is to their people. There are much more needy places in the world than east-Manchester, City is not a charity project (although I am sure some charity work will be incorporated), and therefore money cannot be poured into the club without any thought of returns or an end-benefit for the financiers.

When Abromovich bought Chelsea all he wanted was a fantasy football team and the Champions League trophy. When Mourinho came he instantly complained about the poor training facilities on offer. The first thing our Owner did (well second after Robinho) is update all the facilities and club infrastructure (obviously more development is on the way).

Rest assured this is not just a case of turning City into a successful football club, nor is it just a business venture, it is much bigger than that!

*He is on the board of almost all the major projects in Abu Dhabi and is the trusted aid of the Crown Prince

Yes, the Sheikh 'll be paying a lifetime's salary to every blue who went toLincoln in 1998. City will singlehandedly be responsible for cancelling 3rd world debt, with the profit made from our 320,000 capacity stadium with it's £5 admission. When City win one of their 4 annual major trophies, they will give any money generated straight to underpriveledged kids around the world.

Everyone in England will be a MAnchester City fan. We will be beaming signals to space every minute with a rerun of Dickov's Wembley goal. One day that signal will be returned. Then the plan can really start. The earth is only the beginning.

Malcoln Allison's 1968 prophesy will finally be fulfulled - we will be the first club to play on Mars.

The Skeikh is Willy Wonka and MAnchester City is his Charlie. The Premier League is his great glass elevator.

And fbloke is indeed a soothsayer.

As always HBruz, I'll bow to your greater knowledge of Abu Dhabi and the Sheikh. You really should post here more.

I was using the free tickets point not because I expected free tickets, but because I was trying to point out that the Sheikh isn't in this for no reason, which I think you summed up quite nicely.

I understand that City is a project, but all movement in the project comes from the results on the pitch, so if that isn't right, everything else can be forgotten.

How the Sheikh intends to revolutionise football, I don't know, the only thing I can foresee is revolutionise it in a marketing and commercial sense which was entirely my point.

If you think back to the Kaka debacle it was mentioned that in his contract he would have been provided with a chaitable trust, for his choice of beneficiaries.

If City were to take on other clubs purely on wages then it would take a long time before we had a decent squad.

The vision being sold to new players will no doubt be more than just football.

There is no doubt that the funding for the club will come more from the associated on-site activities, but it will also allow the club an dits community projects to make a real impact in its work.

City will be a very much different beast to the current crop of top football clubs.

In fact most of what I describe is devorced from the on-field activities and rightly so.

City are going to be succesful on the pitch, i think that is a given. But they are also not going to wait for that to happen before they develop all the other aspects.

The other thing about Barcelona that I haven't seen mentioned is that their football team is an extension of a bigger sporting club that includes their basketball and handball team(I've still no idea why it hasn't caught on over here - great game) and god knows what other sports that are also at or near the top of their sport's competitive ladder so to speak.

WE ARE FUCKING OWNED BY ONE PERSON, STOP PLURALISING IT, YOU BASTARDS.

We are not in a real sense so stop making an idiot of yourself..Sheikh Mansour is the one responsible for City but the guys with a say in City matters are several in Abu Dhabi. Not least the other Bani Fatima brothers.

-- Sun Apr 04, 2010 11:42 pm --

That´s the norm in several countries you know, fotball might just be one division within a club.
