City at their lowest... top trumps

Losing at Shrewsbury in FA Cup 1979 - couldn't believe it. And the love of my life decided to stay with her husband and stopped seeing me. What a bloody awful combination of circumstances.

I wanted to kill him.

halifax away , although i had a decent view , halfway up a tree , didnt buy a newspaper for a week after that game.

Most of mine have already been mentioned so I'll throw in a couple of FA Cup exits that really hurt. Notts County when we lost to a 90th minute goal, Spurs in the quarter final on the day the Umbro stand opened and Blackburn under Pearce where city fans were fighting amongst themselves at the end. All pretty dark days.

A few weeks ago, my favourite player didn't score, on the same day utd won which made it more embarrassing for me and meant I had to not go on Twitter for a week.

A few months back, my big foam hand that I wave to help give the players skill got ingested and shat out by a horse, that was a low point.

This is a great shout

Yes all the times mentioned were very bad, but irrespective of the relativity of it all, at no time as a city fan have I felt as distraught as I did at this time.

No way near. I reckon I could name about 50 worse points.

Really! With what was at stake and what we were about to lose and who we were going to lose it to!

I would have to say this was my lowest point.

The pain of fucking up against QPR would have been immeasurable. But, it wouldn't have been our "lowest" - guess it all boils down to perspective. The season we got spanked by Liverpool 4 and 6-0 - bad, but we'd been blitzed by them many a time previously. From that season I remember Wimbledon away at Easter. 3-0 total and utter capitulation. Fucking dismal. Lincoln away, 4-1, Michael Brown afraid to take a throw in for fear of the abuse he'd get from the City fans. Royle at port Vale - lost 2-1 and he appeared helpless to change it. But, and it's taken a bit of thought, throughout the 40+ years of following City, the worst I've ever felt after a defeat:

Luton.

Wycombe away lost 1-0.......penalty I think

Lincoln away lost 4-1 and I think we scored first!

this + bury away, think we lost 1-0 or 2-1. And gary neville was there on the sidelines under his umbrella watching with a smirk on his face. Never forget that.

we drew that game 1-1. David Johnson scored for them. Kinky missed (Irish keeper saved it - Dean Kiely?) a pen then David Morley (I think!!) got his one and only goal for city. But yep, we were SHITE.

Lincoln away UWE got v.early goal. Thereafter we got blitzed.

For some reason, the one that really got to me was the last game at Maine Road. The memories since the 60s were all in my head as I looked around the old ground for the very last time, and tried to take it all in.

It was meant to be a celebration. The result didn't matter but we went and lost. So I didn't even stay for Badly Drawn Boy. Is there a more poignant typical city moment?

Badly Small Boy - "this songs for the Maine Rd Stand" - you were right to leave. And yep, was a right fucking downer of a day. But it was no Luton.
