City - big club or not ?

'Big club' is such a ridiculous obsession. Even before the takeover we were a big club, and we had been shit for 30 years.

Consistently some of the biggest attendances in English football.
Consistently in the top tier of English football, with just the occasional relegation sprinkled in to keep things interesting.
Pretty sure we've won a trophy in every single decade of our existence except the 1980s.

Do one.
FA Youth Cup - 1986. It got lots of publicity this year when United won it - so I think it counts now.....

In the last 15 years we have progressed from being the 7th or 8th biggest club in England to being the 3rd or 4th, which hopefully will be as high as we go. I'd rather be a local club with groups of supporters around the world with Manchester connections than a global club that is the biggest in Asia, Africa or the Americas and just happens to be located in our city but would get the same support wherever it was located.

Back in the 70s, 80s and 90s nobody really cared about the "size" of a club. The majority of football fans supported their local club and went to games. The whole narrative has come about since Sky Sports and the colossal boom in the armchair supporter. They are the ones who created and drove this narrative and turned it into a stick to beat, in most cases, real traditional football fans.

It should be the other way round and is European and English football big enough for Manchester city
we can reach places nobody else can if the ruling governing bodies don't listen to the so-called elite clubs in calling us little city ?

Could you Imagen Messi or Ronaldo and others playing for Manchester city in their peak if we were allowed to sign them ? We would have had to re-build the Etihad, and it would now be a stadium of around 75,000 and 3 or 4 Champions League titles under our belts ?

The simple signal reason why Manchester city have not won the Champions League yet is politics and not football

Subjective term means nothing without definition and even then fans will argue for whatever definition suits their club.

All in all a waste of time.

According to this fella on RAWK, we're not even a 'legitimate football club'.

Really started to believe when villa were 2-0 i up. Always thought we’d get a winner against wolves. Can’t believe villa folded like that in 6 mins. Immortality was within our grasp. Proud of this team. If we win the CL, we’ve had a better season than Abu Dhabi. Up the reds!
Just by existing as a legitimate football club we have had a better season than Abu Dhabi.

OUCH!
