City - big club or not ?

Leeds? Leeds have never won the European Cup. They’ve never won a UEFA trophy. They’ve only ever won three league titles, one FA Cup and one EFL Cup in their history.

Forest are just a little club who had a great era under one manager who took them out of the division they’d almost always been in, took them to the top division, then won the league and won the European Cup twice, won a few more trophies, then they drifted back to the level they had nearly always been in.

City have won more trophies in the last 6 years than Villa have in the last 110 years.
My daughter came over from Leeds for the parade and as I’m dropping her back at night these local scruffs presumably Leeds fans shout across “where’s your European cup”.

Any comments of that sort make me feel all warm inside as it shows they’re hurting.

In Scotland Celtic get bigger crowds than Rangers (bigger ground) and have won many more trophies in the last 15 years but Rangers dwarf them size wise in Scotland with almost 1 in 5 of the population supporting the teddy bears.

Defining a big club is subjective.

Therefore it’s a stick to beat us with as they can define the terms upon what they define makes a club big.
By any measure - honours won, historic attendances, stadium size, years in the top flight, current state - anyone who thinks we’re just another Leeds is fucking deluded.

It was much easier to win the European Cup back in the 70s and 80s, as long as the opposition didn’t buy the ref, as happened to Derby for example.
I remember at the time it seemed like Villa won it almost by accident.
No way can the requirements to win that competition back then be compared to now.

Leeds have never won it. They were in one final where they were robbed in 1975.
