City bus scheme for home games - bus tracking (P91)

Decent enough idea, especially for midweek games when I'm not as bothered about going via town, my only concerns are as its first come first serve, what happens if the bus gets filled at the first stop? Normally you would wait for the next bus going to the same place but this time you will be scrambling for an expensive uber. Secondly, if its run by TFGM why are the fares not capped at £2 each way like normal buses in GM?

Are you being serious?

You expect City to pay travelling expenses for fans!
Nice idea but no other business does that.

Being serious though, the addresses of match going fans will be spread far and wide, even across Grtr Mcr.
You want a bus running from every City fans house?

I checked the bus that calls in Timperley, Timperley may appear to be a small village to those that don't know the area but it covers a huge area. For example, the Metrolink station is about a mile or more from the village centre, so where would you say the bus actually pick up?

It's something that will benefit some, if no good for you then don't worry about it.

I hope it's a success but I would really like them to put a Railway station in behind Tesla!
They include free travel in some European countries so why not here

I do a coach from Middleton so I know the approximate cost of putting a bus on and the club could afford it

What they get in return is less traffic around the ground, less people getting into the ground late, might actually make money on food to cover it.

Regarding the fare price there are only a finite number of drivers available so it’s likely they’ll need to pay overtime rates to get anyone to volunteer to drive these. It’s also free for those with the right passes.

I used the existing Macc service a couple of times earlier in the season. Only ever 4 or 5 on it plus it wandered all over Heald Green and Cheadle waiting at stops where no one got on, and driver didn’t know where he was going! This looks more flexible, better organised and cheaper, and can use one way, so looks a positive development for getting home, particularly night games.

Yeah, it's a good idea and pleased to see the club looking into options like this. I would need more information about the logistics, before deciding of it's viable though. If you can buy your ticket in advance and are guaranteed a seat then it would be great, but having to turn up on the day and take your chances doesn't sound very appealing.

I don’t think you can realistically expect them to be included in the £2 cap.

A regular bus might pick up a good few hundred people getting on and off at various points on the route.

These are getting one bunch of people, all going to the same place. So when it’s full, it’s full.

At £2, it probably wouldn’t even cover the driver’s wages.

Just a devil's advocate type of post here or thinking aloud to clarify my thoughts?
Yes it seems expensive especially with the price of 'normal' buses being capped at £2 or so per journey.
However with the drivers and the buses for the 'normal' buses being employed for the whole 8 or so hours the cost is spread out over a day.
With the 'football special buses' the driver would be working for say 2 hours before the game and 2 hours after with a 90 minute break. All having to be paid for at competitive rates and no chance to make any more money.
The cost of insurance, petrol/diesel would also be different and equate to more than the 'normal' routes wouldn't it?
Does that make sense? Basically it will cost a heck of a lot more. I know it does for the OSCs who run buses to the matches.

I think it is an interesting venture/gesture from the club. Short of building a multi storey car park, which defeats the object of sustainable and climate saving they appear to be aiming for, I am not sure what else they can do. They are at least trying to help the fans.
JMHO (in peace) :-)

Remember getting Bullock's coaches from Marple to both Home and Away games in the 70's, it was a brilliant service. Looking forward to using this new service as recently it has been a nightmare getting to and fro the Etihad.

Well said.

But Let’s face it, whatever the club does to try to help fans, there’s always someone who finds some way of criticising it. After all, tickets should be free; transport should be cheap as chips (if the club have anything to do with it) & the whole parking issue was nothing to do with the Council, it was all city’s fault.
