City charged by the FA following the Villa match (22nd May 2022)

This was always going to happen as pitch invasions have never happened before. Oh wait a minute - they have? What about hitting a player? OK then breaking crossbars? But have they all happened at the same time? Maybe we should get a game postponed and see how well the FA respond!

Helpful suggestion

I suppose aside from whatever happened with their keeper, we did also snap our crossbar into two pieces.

The trouble is, I’m not sure what the club can do around ground because so many idiots from every stand, run onto the pitch. The only answer seems to be temporary fencing that can be installed for certain games - or blocking off the first few rows around the ground with the horizontal fencing like they have at Wembley, which stops encroachment or slows perpetrators down so they can be “caught” by stewards. Trouble is - this is totally unfair on the fans who generally sit in these seats the rest of the season because they’ll have to be moved. Our own fans - inconvenienced by the idiot sector.

This is not a case of most fans being party poopers - as the idiots accuse us of. Regrettably there’s an element of “I don’t fucking care about the rest of you - if I want to run on the pitch I will”. Sums up a huge problem in our society

We’ve got to recognise that’s it’s illegal to invade the pitch or bring in flares.
Rule 21 includes this.

"It shall be a defence in respect of charges against a Club for Misconduct by spectators and all persons purporting to be supporters or followers of the Club, if it can show that all events, incidents or occurrences complained of were the result of circumstances over which it had no control..."

City could easily defend themselves against this charge. How can they control lots of fans celebrating? It happens at the end of the season at loads of grounds. Plus, there was a steward escorting their 'keeper off the pitch. And their 'keeper for some reason thought it a good idea to stand still, showing no urgency in trying to leave the pitch. That's not City's fault.

Hope you’re right. Let’s see if the FA are happy with this explanation
