City fans' view towards the Champions League

Do you enjoy the Champions League?

maybe it sounds harsh but I find it

It reads harsh I agree and people are entitled to their opinion. I just find it exasperating that people can’t see -or feel- how much this matters-in the eyes of the world.

Watch the hype build now over the next few weeks. This is no league cup final. I feel sorry for blues who can’t embrace this, living history for MCFC.
It obviously means an awful lot to our owner, the chairman, Pep, the coaching staff and the players.

I agree with everything you say, but the correlation between the same finalists every year is mirrored by the spending power of those clubs involved. If you have joined that group, then you are part of the same system.

That aside, forget the silly name 'Champions league'. It's the European cup. Winning it is the pinnacle for any club. It doesn't get any better than that. It is the furthest you can go with a team. Embrace it.
Agreed about the spending power and that only increases as these teams appear in it every year.

I've posted before that the last time only winners of their league qualified for the Champions League, was the last time both Real and Barcelona didn't appear in in the competition (Bayern only failing once).

I still enjoy the competition and want nothing more than us to win it every year.

Can you imagine the atmosphere at the Etihad during and after the PSG game. It would have been the best ever.

City have to do something in Manchester at the end of the season to bring the fans and team together. Suddenly this season will be over and we'll miss it like crazy. I want some memories of this season that are something more than watching on TV.
Was chatting about that earlier. That game panned out perfect for atmosphere and it’s such a shame we weren’t there. There would have been build up and flag waving, tension, release at the goals, roaring at the commitment and ten minutes of celebrating at the end. I agree it would have been the best ever.

Funny how you don't see many people lauding the FIFA Club World Cup or the UEFA Super Cup as the highest honour in football. It is what it's always been, a parade competition.

I live in South America. Outside of the Europe, I guarantee you that the Club World Cup is a big deal. The teams want to win their continental competition so they can face the Champions League winner there. I understand that for European clubs it means very little (probably because it’s very rare that the Champions League winner loses it — last time was Chelsea).
However, it struck me as curious that Pep of all people recorded a congratulatory video for Bayern when they won it earlier this year. He has won it 3x — twice with Barcelona and once with Bayern. Could make it four soon, hopefully

As for the thread, while I understand that the league proves who’s really best, the UCL is what the world judges a team for. That explains why it’s so important for managers, players, owners

Of course it's been changed to create as much money as possible but I like the latter stages very much. The peak of football.

I prefer to win the Premier League but in terms of the best football, this is it even if it has been warped to a great degree by money. It's probably better as a spectacle for having 3-4 teams from the major leagues.

I agree, the 1/4 final onwards is generally the peak of football.

Maybe I'm just an old romantic, but I'd love see the return of the Cup Winners Cup and a UEFA Cup that isn't undermined. I also don't like seeing Champions League games (especially a final) between clubs from the same league.

Could be the lefty/socialist part of me but I'd love seeing the wealth (and footballing talent) more evenly distributed around the European leagues. I feared (and still do to some extent) we were on the verge of the competition becoming like the Premier League back in the early 00's when you knew the top4 each year just not the order, us and PSG have shaken that up a bit.

The group stages are boring and UEFA are tools

But the knockout wow, what a competition.

Era defining if we win the final
This is pretty much how I feel

Winning the Premier league (the most competitive) by playing 38 matches, every club home and away over a ten month period is still the ultimate achievement
But Winning a cup match vs a big foreign club is special

In normal times , it would have probably been the best atmosphere ever generated at the Etihad, dont forget PSG would have brought 3000 and they are not quiet, add that to the mix bloody hell.

Hate the competition when we get knocked out. Love it now we are in the final.
I'm a fickle, hypocritical fucker like every other football supporter... :-)
