Yeah seems the club want to keep Stones but Pep feels he isn’t reliable because of his injury record and he want Garcia to sign a new contract so he can be one of his main centre backs, well it how I read into that tweet.

Easily the best passer out of defence at the club. I know he wasn’t pressurised tonight but he always plays the ball well in front of the player for them to run onto and not having to check their run. Understands the game and I Still think he’s worth another season and clearly a better player than Garcia and Otamendi. I don’t see what Garcia’s strengths as a defender are and Otamendi makes way more errors that Stones.
I agree with second to last point - what Garcia’s strengths are as a defender.
he looks really good at passing the ball out, but I haven’t really seen signs of a top defender yet. I think bellis has shown that more - aggressive and stronger when defending

Laporte is the defender who is best passer not Stones. It’s not even close. Laporte plays accurate diagonals, and even through balls. Stones doesn’t even attempt those.
Stones having all these “ball playing skills” is one of the biggest myths in football. He doesn’t even have crisp one touch passing in his locker, Garcia is better than him at that.
Unless he does get his act together, his value is decreasing by the day like his contract.I dont see the point of selling him on when his value is at his lowest. Seems like poor business.

Stones is a talented defender, he has played some top games for us, Napoli away for one. But he has lost his way in the last 2 years. His personal life is his business, but I doubt that the problems off the field are unconnected. It is up to him, the potential is there, is the concentration and professionalism?

Sorry but we’ll beg to differ. Stones is very good at finding gaps between opposition players and is very crisp with his passing. Probably not high on confidence at the moment so he kept it very simple against Newcastle, and nothing more was required against such a poor team.Laporte is the defender who is best passer not Stones. I think he slows us down, I’ve seen him fake left fake right then pass it to the DM too many times. This is coming from someone that believed Stones could go all the way to the top. Sadly it looks like that won’t happen. He’s 26 we shouldn’t be speaking about confidence here. It’s safe to say he has a weak mentality.
