City fans writing John Stones off too early?

I agree with second to last point - what Garcia’s strengths are as a defender.

he looks really good at passing the ball out, but I haven’t really seen signs of a top defender yet. I think bellis has shown that more - aggressive and stronger when defending
Look more closely he is spot on when it comes to organisation and sensing danger but obviously not as strong as Bellis in tackle or air. Would like him to stay but a move back to Barcelona seems likely. Probably sent over here to develop under Pep out of the way of the intrusive Catalan media.

I thought he again looked composed when he came on last night. His injury record is the issue, nothing more. It's a shame. A fit Stones, a new contract for Garcia, Rolls-Royce Laporte and, say, Koulibaly would be an outstanding CB choice.

Ironically enough we’re exactly where we want to be with Stones and the ‘project’. If we get proper value and he wants to go he can go. We’ll have more funds to upgrade the CB position and he can potentially jumpstart his career. If he wants to stay, he can fight it out for the third CB spot with Garcia.

Win/win all around. That’s exactly the type of situation we want to be in as one of the biggest clubs in world football.

Well I’ve seen a defender who reads the game well gets into position does have to go to ground too much doesn’t panic and as you say his passing is good. This is in total contrast to a defender that is more aggressive and last minute tackles going to ground Modern football suits the later

I dont see the point of selling him on when his value is at his lowest. Seems like poor business.
Continuing to pay the wages of a player deemed to be unreliable and unproductive is poor business as well. If our season was over we could play him as window shopping.

Doesnt really matter if the fans write him off , but i think the club have , but nothing would please me more if he could regain his form and confidence and become the player and leader he is capable of , if he stays then the next 12 months will make or break his career at the top level.

I think I read that his contract is up in 2022. If this is the case, you either offer him a new contract now, or you sell him now. The thought of him getting another 4 or 5 years fills me with dread.
Why? It keeps options open and protects an asset’s value. The club sells him now only if he definitely doesn’t figure in future plans.

I don’t have an axe to grind either way, btw. Only Pep and his team can study him closely enough to make the call.

There are alternatives. Koulibaily and Ake being a couple.

Good job we didn't pay 60m for Cancelo then isn't it ;)
It is. And you know well that City didn’t pay anything like 60m for Cancelo. It was a smoke and mirrors deal to suit Juve’s purposes by over-valuing Danilo in the part exchange deal.

Yes I know. Hence my comment....

I think Stones biggest problem is his private life.

I think it will stop him from becoming a truly great player.

Going on benders,it takes 2,3,days to recover even when you are young, and fit in your twenties.
