"Can we get Graham on? Here he is, give him a round of applause. Now, Dave, Noel, Tom, Phill, Bill, Dante. We do care on this show, so Graham's going to give you some counselling and aftercare so you can move on from this and get on with your lives. If nothing else, you owe it to the younger ones. Now, Noel, you go off that way and the rest of you go the other way..."

I'm loathe to pull this thread, despite the way it's headed, because it's been one of the most interesting on here for a while.

It started as a celebration of our rich fanzine heritage, and it's a shame it's descended into a slanging match but I guess some wounds run deep.

I'm of a different generation so can't really comment on what's been said, as I wasn't there but having met Noel and Dave, albeit briefly, I've found them both very likeable, knowledgeable Blues.

Not that my opinion really matters in all this, of course. Obviously there's a bit of history and grudges remain, that's fair enough, and it's genuinely interesting to hear the views of those involved. All I ask is that it is done in a respectful manner on here.

Ha ha, not quite. Noel did indeed assault me. He has already admitted so. Apparently it was because (in his words) I assaulted his then girlfriend (which I 100% refute) and thus giving people the impression that I am some sort of women beater that deserved the hiding he gave me.

What I have been attempting to get Noel to admit is that his then girlfriend came over to where I was stood, away from Noel and on her own, and then attempted to steal the bag of fanzines I had between my legs. I held on to the bag and eventually she let go. Mr Big then came over and assaulted me.
Mr Big hasn't confirmed yet whether this is a correct version of events or not, instead he hides behind ''I have no further comment to make on the subject'' (which will be a first - and a clear sign of guilt!)

although the thread becomes a personal grudge-match,it had enough contributions from other posters to be compelling reading. The depth of knowledge and involvement with and of the club made me feel a bit of a lightweight supporter, quite a painful experience, tbh. All in all a fascinating thread

thanks Rhino, happy to clear that up. We all sit here with abated breath waiting for Noel to answer YES or NO to my question......
If it was on Eastenders, I could type ''do do do do do do do do'' as the episode closes as Noel is just about to give his answer.....
Fever pitch here, fever pitch just waiting....

RIGHT ON QUEUE

By Noel Bayley (editor of Bert Trautmann's Thermos Flask & Garden Chair)

Getting a fix on the length of yesterday's queue for Wigan tickets had not
been easy; the traditionally unhelpful ticket office were, well, unhelpful
when I rang.
"Are people queuing yet?" I asked.
"There were about thirty people this morning when I got here."
"How many now?"
"I don't know, we've got the blinds down?"
"Can't you lift them up and have a look?"
"No!"
"Have a look out the door?"
Obviously not, cheers!

A flurry of 'phone calls established that the queue was indeed up and
running and so were we. We arrived at Maine Road to see that a healthy
throng had already gathered and was stretched back as far as the North
Stand/Kippax corner, complete with the required queuing paraphernalia of
thermos flasks and garden chairs, butties and papers. However, as we had
made prior arrangements to queue on a rota basis we were able to take up a
spot close to the front of the queue. This didn't go down too well with a
couple of people behind, particularly with one supporters' club branch
chairman who I'd never seen in a queue before. While it isn't usually
practical for out-of-town supporters to queue for tickets, I don't see why
officials of local branches shouldn't have to queue up for every game like
the rest of us. After all, if Thame Blue can drive up from Oxon to
guarantee himself a ticket, why should people from Greater Manchester be
spared the effort?

During the course of the afternoon we were joined by one or two others,
again to the chagrin of some behind. However, if you've let someone in the
queue earlier in the season, it's only natural that the compliment is
returned. To use a popular footballing phrase of the day: these things even
themselves out over the course of a season.

this is nothing

there should be a thread on what happened city fanzines v utd fanzines over the years, now that would be interesting...

all i can say about that one is that as a group of supporters we could have done more against united if we had stuck together, they are always pulling stunts and plotting at our expense...

for example, they tried to hire out one of the suites in the kippax for a party when it was our 25th year without a trophy - the silver jubilee they called it.

someone in city fanzineland tipped off the club about it and they told the person who booked it there was a burst pipe or something, meaning they had to find a new venue with 24 hours notice

the party went ahead in town but not before a certain radio prankster called the police and said there was a fire, leaving 150 rags out on the street in the pouring rain

there was more we could have done but we were divided

the time when we were most together was really september 1993, forward with franny because everyone wanted swales out by then really... but it didn't last...
