Just spotted on Twitter (no idea how accurate this is);

In the face of accusations that the rags are spending more than anyone else in an attempt to buy titles after criticising City ad nauseam in this respect their default position is that they've 'earned' the money they're spending so that's all right.

CL financial distribution just been published. We ended up with €35.4m, compared to €27.78m in 2012/13.

So we got 7.5m more for getting out of the group stages or was it because we won more games?

Half ls for City getting out of the group stages. The rest is for the other 3 English teams doing worse than usual relative to us. Arsenal were ejected in the same round as us. Utd in the QF and Chelsea in the semi.

It's a combination of both of those plus other factors.

You get a fixed amount for each win & draw plus extra bonuses for getting into the group stage and then getting out of it into the last 16. So we got €8.6m for participating in the group stage and €1m per win, plus another €3.5m for getting to the last 16. That gave us €17.1m.

Then there's the market pool. which is split by the size of each country's TV deal with UEFA. The total English pot was €71.7m.

Of that pot, half is doled out by where you finished in the league the previous season, split 40/30/20/10. So we got 30% for second place. The other half is split based on the proportion of the total number of games played by us compared to the total played by all the English teams. So the English teams played 38 games in total and we played 8 of those, meaning we got 8/38th's of that part of the market pool.

Cheers.. I was just wondering how much more we got for getting out the group but it's more complicated than that as you explained..
