City & FFP | 2020/21 Accounts released | Revenues of £569.8m, £2.4m profit (p 2395)

Re: City & FFP (continued)

Well bearing in mind platinis son is psg sporting director it does make for interesting viewing! City waiting to see what happens with psg before launching any rockets. Im shocked that uefa have allowed a yearly sponsorship from the quartari's! Yet they have questions about the £40m etihad deal!

Is this guesswork? Do we actually really know what they have questioned or, indeed, what the proposed sanctions are? I don't know whether much of this thread is opinion or fact. I don't' think our sponsorship can possibly be questioned because it is clearly too low compared with other clubs deals for shirt sponsorship alone - most of which are double ours. However, hints have been forthcoming that it is the Intellectual rights that are being questioned. It's all guesswork and the more I read the more I think that this is not going to be resolved quickly

I thought they passed our Etihad deal, it was the IP deals that stuck.

Regardless, FFP has done some good for Platini. I seriously doubt the Qataris purchased Platini's favourite club and immediately hired his son back in 2011 with FFP on the horizon purely out of chance.

Supposedly Newcastle was where that money was originally going to go. If FFP falls now he will still be happy with what he did for French football.

Re: City & FFP (continued)

I'm slightly surprised that we've not sorted some more heavy duty sponsorships to help the income.

The IP was the main issue but we still had to fight to prove the etihad deal was legitimate.

Now, just thinking aloud here and you shouldn't read anything into this, but what if, for example, a fabulously wealthy Middle East country were to sponsor a European elite tournament for, say, the top 24 clubs and ensure prize money that completely dwarfed that for the CL?

You wouldn't need to pass some silly little financial test that they make up rules for as they go along and would earn far more than the €25-€45m that the 16 qualifiers stand to earn depending on how far they go.

Most of UEFA's revenue comes from TV and sponsors for the CL so taking the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern, Chelsea, Juventus etc out of the CL would kill UEFA stone dead. Just a thought.

I have often wondered if this scenario will ever happen, FFP has brought it closer I feel
Been done before in other sports. Something I have and many others have thought. Would love to see it.

Any connection with the IP issue that City seem to be keeping under wraps?

Re: City & FFP (continued)

There was a rumour on here somewhere that we had been pulled on the IP sale as it was sold to someone in abu dhabi? ! Surely we wouldn't be that naive?
