City Firm?!?

It's called "banter" and "joining in" and those who don't like it show their own ignorance.

EVERYONE ,pacifist or hooligan psycho, is entitled to their opinion. IMHO

please show your indifference to a thread more often ,great read

matty ennui

I stuck the v's up at an everton fan once in 1975-hope he didn't notice

I was always a coward meself

hooliganism had its place once

Just reading through a couple of posts, it made me think how peoples attitudes, have changed especially towards hooliganism, what some fans seem to forget though is it was acceptable in the 70s and 80s, and being a so called hooligan in those days was like a badge of honor, you were not a true supporter if you did not spill a bit of blood for your club, I grew up during that era as did most my mates, far from being thick uneducated dossers which is absolute bollocks ,most so called hooligans were in full time employment, family men, thoroughly decent blokes, the kind of blokes you could depend on in a hour of need, who literally changed in to warriors for the shirt at the weekend, you all went out on the lash together, went for a rumble before slipping back discreetly in to your boring mundane lives doing your 9-5 jobs, I have some great memories of standing amongst City fans wearing Royal Mail uniforms, Airport uniforms, prior to battle, I even remember a doctor and barrister, I still see these blokes now in their 40s at the matches today with there sons, you never forget a face and still smile at each other as you cross in the aisles. Being a City fan in those days ensured you were busy at weekends

Maybe it is totally unacceptable today, it was great at the time though, just for the record I thought Newcastle had a good crew during the 80s as did Arsenal,it had its place once just not any more.

Those were days when City had a hard core of CTID. Half of the toss pots that go today would not of dared slag players off. A tap on the shoulder to 'shut you mouth' was enough.
Remember the cool cats?

I used to like a good scrap back in the nineties, have been in some right situations

Im not a fan of Firms but as my uncle was part of the guvnors back in the 80s and 90s, he has mentioned to me that they are making a comeback...not that they have dissapeared like..but with the likes of WHU Chelski Millwall and the rag fuckers still at it, they want to get back involved....he said the ball has started rolling with the recent bits of trouble in the ground, this is now to be taken onto the streets and away from COMs as they did in the 90s as the clubs is getting stick from the trouble recently.

Thats what i have been told

Hang on, Matty, who made you the great barometer for what is interesting or not?

I find it boring as fuck to hear people saying "Rag" at new posters.
I do not want to see endless pictures of bloody titanics because someone posts something old
I certainly don't want another "can we extend our stadium" thread.

So I don't get involved. Hooliganism is a part of football culture which is nearly gone. Young people are interested in what went on. That's why there are so many books on the subject. incidentally, our own "Guvnors" book sold tens of thousands and a new one, "The Young guvnors" is due out soon.

People are interested whether you like it or not.

Well said.

eeeeeee..when I were a lad..we had to lick t'road clean and gerrup an hour b4 we went to bed.... Old fart lol

Nowt wrong with a bit of reminiscing about the old days and it IS interesting. It might be misconstrued a sgloryfying violence and encouraging youngsters into it but hey It worked for me. IT MADE ME FEEL ALIVE BACK IN 1975 - 1992. Then I couldnt leg it anymore lol

I remember Donald Francis and his boys giving out leaflets outside the Kippax at Maine Road advertising coaches to AWAY games from Store Street under Picc Station.

Leaflets were pretty basic but what always stuck in my mind was " NO RUNNERS" at the bottom. You had to stand your ground. It was a sense of pride too! A sense of belonging for someone like me who had a shite Father and City lads became my family instead.

CTID and proud to have supported City for 40 years even as a fkin hooligan sometimes!

good post.

My first experiences of footy violence were when me brother used to drag me to Burnden park to watch the scrapping all over Manchester Rd. It was stanleys and sheep skin coats (protection from stabbing) back then and i was only a kid so i mostly watched. Our kid went with a crew that were pretty fuckin daft and i saw some scary shit. An ambush on West Ham fans in one of the pubs springs to mind as does police horses and dog bites.
A few years later it was awaydays with City using trains, coaches and my uncles 'plastic pig'. I was older and got more involved and have some fond memories of them days. The excitement and adrenalin rush were almost habitual back then but these days i prefer a good lie down.

On a side note, what about letting the hoolies of today have a go at each other on the pitch at half time? Much better than watching some kid trying to kick balls through a hoop eh.

Rivals fighting at football has been ongoing for at least 70 years, the only reason it was noticed in the 70's was because it got more press coverage as travel became easier to away games therefore allowing more fans to impose thierselves onthe home teams patch.
I think its called JINGOISM which is a kind of area pride that people will fight for.It will never be stopped only contained.
I've been on here about 2 months now and this is the first time i've seen a post about
"firms" very interesting indeed.
For those that dont like it don't read it and don't tell others what to do

What really fcuks me off is that the people who were involved in football violence back in the 70's & 80's seem to think there was some sort of honour in what they were doing. Even worse, they also perpetuate the myth that firms would only cause aggrovation with other like minded holigans & that they'd never touch innocent fans. What utter bollox.

Actually that's true as far as my experience goes. Only other firms/mobs who wanted some action were targeted by us blue Mancs. What's the point other wise? Personally I hated bullies funnily enough and went out of my way to intimidate those who intimidated. I got a good kicking a few times, by RAGS mainly outside The Northumberland on Chester Road on one occasion. One of the reasons I hate RAGS more than anyone as they also tried to stab me to death on Princess Parkway one night after a cup night game against Hartlepool. Things like that turn you into a violent young man.

Not my experience unfortunately. I actually got a kicking from some of the City lads back in 1988(?) when we played at West Brom. Why? Well, merely because I was in with the City fans yet I've got a Midlands accent. Nice.

Sorry that happened to you.

ok..well I'd also say that was an isolated incident and not typical of what actually did happen.

It wasn't me..honest young guvnor.

Another point worth mentioning is the police in those days; even now I still remember images of the police kicking shit out of both sets of opposing fans. And battering anything that moved with truncheons, the police were more psychotic and indiscriminate than any hooligans, funny thing is hardly any arrests were usually made I think some of their lads looked forward to Saturdays as much as the fans, in those days coppers were coppers we could do with a few of those lads on the streets today.

Yeah like the time we got a good kicking at Everton and the OB looked the other way.

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but don’t you think that was a ridiculously stupid thing to do?

That was an era where fans all came from the City of the club they supported, I am not saying it is right what happened but I know I would not have done something similar in that day and age because accents got you in to serious trouble.

we did in the 80's as a continuation of fights between our rival schools used to go for a row at dinner then left and had no one to fight, from 83 used to go to games and have a bit of a ruck seemed like fun when i was 16 going on the train and that...
