City "have made the PL uncompetitive"

Reality is, it's never been more competitive.

Brentford in any other era would have smashed teams yesterday. We're the best team this league has seen and we were struggling to get the ball back for periods of the game.
Indeed, I said to my neighbour throughout the match that nigh on every Brentford player had a decent touch, and at one point I asked if they'd got twelve on! The most skilful team we've seen in a long time - no surprise they were the last PL team to win at The Etihad. Hope the Arse are just a little inferior!

In the Premiership/Premier League era…

From 1993-2011 (ie. before City started winning Prem titles), there were only 5 last day title deciders in those 18 years (1994-95, 1995-96, 1998-99, 2007-08, 2009-10).

In just the last 13 years, with City at the top, there have been 5 last day title deciders (2011-12, 2013-14, 2018-19, 2021-22, 2023-24). In three of those City had to come from behind to win the game to win the league: 1-2 down against QPR, 1-0 down against Brighton and 0-2 down against Villa.

In those first 18 years of the Prem era, there were 4 different winners of the Prem (United, Blackburn, Arsenal, Chelsea). In the last 13 years there have been 5 different winners of the Prem (City, United, Chelsea, Leicester, Liverpool).

So the fact is that the league has never been more competitive in the Premiership/Premier League era.

Brentford who were fucking nowhere 10 years ago gave the best team in the world a run for their money today.

Todays Prem is unrelenting, teams of old were beaten by MANURE on fixture release date.

Teams would field weakened sides against UTD if they had a run of fixtures a bit tricky and basically give them a BYE. I spent a lot of their glory years off my tits on drugs and or pissed up but i can remember when teams went at em Utd looked at their weakest.

All the fuckers on talksport this week have been going on about "The Glory Days of Football"...The best football this country has ever seen is being played in this country all across the counties because Pep Guardiola manages Man City and his ethos and style can be replicated.

Manchester United had a absolutely brilliant batch of players come through at once when they could afford to buy the players others couldn't.

I would hate to cast aspersions (because as pointed out i was fooked most of the 90's , but the advent of

SKY TV, Premier League, United's flotations were too much of a perfect storm for me, some insider dealings and such like must have gone on

I had forgotten about throwing matches against the rags. But that went on

United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal all have the resources to make it competitive.

We are not at fault for the incompetence of other teams.
