City in for Alves?

Re: this 25 man squad lark. Our squad list was stated at the beginning of the season to be:

1 - Joe Hart
2 - Shay Given
3 - Stuart Taylor
4 - Vincent Kompany
5 - Kolo Tooure
6 - Joleon Lescott
7 - Micah Richards
8 - Pablo Zabaleta
9 - Jerome Boateng
10 - Aleksandar Kolarov
11 - Wayne Bridge
12 - Shaleum Logan
13 - Nigel de Jong
14 - Gareth Barry
15 - Yaya Toure
16 - Patrick Vieira
17 - Michael Johnson
18 - James Milner
19 - Shaun Wright-Phillips
20 - Adam Johnson
21 - David Silva
22 - Jo
23 - Roque Santa Cruz
24 - Emmanuel Adebayor
25 - Carlos Tevez

We didn't need to register Balo, Boyata, Guidetti, Nimley, etc because are all under 21. Assulin would also fall into this category as he's only 19.

From that list, we've now got rid of Bridge and Santa Cruz, and added Dzeko - meaning we already have a place free in our revised squad before we get rid of Ade and SWP. With those two gone, we'd have three places free in the squad.

Surely we can't be thinking of bringing three more players in - I would have thought one at the most - in which case it would appear that we have plenty of space in the 25 as it is.

Yes, and adding more money to the existing pay roll. Us blues might not like to hear this, but we are very conscious about wage bill.

When you are at the stage we are, anybody coming in, they invariably come at upwards of £150k a week.

I reckon with Ade, SWP, Bridge, Roque, that's £350k a week off the wages.

But we've brought in Dzeko, and they aint paying him in barms.

Bit lost there mate, what do you men by anyone?

It was in reference to Bluebean attempting to explain my previous post.

He incorrectly stated we had to free up squad places to sign Alves.

We are having to do so, for anybody we attempt to bring in.

Sorry pal, that is what I meant...

But in directly if we did want laves we'd need the space...

Glad to hear it mate - we need to be making efforts to address the FFP rules, and bringing our wage bill down is the big factor in trying to achieve that objective.

If we get a firm commitment to buy SWP and Ade at the end of the season written into their loans, plus the likely removal of Patrick Vieira's reportedly huge wages when his deal expires in the summer, we'll be looking a little bit better.

By my understanding, we need to be seen to be making an effort to push ourselves in the right direction - as long as we can convince UEFA we are doing this, we should be given some leeway.

Its gonna be a late night monday, window shuts at 11pm...im hoping on just 1 BIG MOVE to set us up for the rest of the season, and i would be chuffed with dani ...but here is hoping..

Good to see there are efforts to control and offer sustainability. We can buy the players now without much come back, but they'll be sat on whatever wages we give them for however long the contract is.

Look at the problems we are having with moving on some players now. Who would buy our second choice or even third choice full back if he was on 120k a week wages. And would he even go, or sit around collecting the wage, making us look like mugs and creating an undesired element in the club. Next thing you know we'd have has beens wanting to come here to 'see out their career'.

Just because we're not short of a few bob doesn't mean we shouldn't take care of the pennies. Some of the richest people I've ever met are the most incredibly tight, or self-controlled if you prefer, people ever with money.

Issue with bringing in another RB for me is, where are we going with the defence in general? Was Boateng bought as a CB after all then? Is Micah finished at City? Nedum too? Or are we simply aiming at better than we already have? Probably the answer to 2 of those questions is 'yes', so aiming to bring in the best we can is sensible, but as Tolmie says, expensive. Alves fits the bill I many ways, fast, likes to attack, can score, can cross. Defensively I'm not sure he's the best though, but I can't name too many defensively sound RBs anyway. Not my forte.

Whatever the case, if I were the Sheikh I'd be glad it was Mancini making the decisions with where to spend my money. His record so far is pretty decent, and he seems to have an overall plan. However, bit surprised we are talking RB and not CB - if Luiz is available and Mancini has said he thinks he's the bees knees, why are Chelsea unopposed for his signature? Unless we know they won't meet the asking price? Or maybe a ruse to aide us in getting someone else, like Alves, under the radar?

Not too sure about this on Vieira, mate?

I heard, Pat is one of the lowest-paid players in the entire first-team squad.

Not exactly saying he's a pauper, but he's way down and his money is also linked to appearances and success.

He might have been on bigger dough when he first arrived, but following the extension he got last summer, was told not much more than £50k a week.

You would be surprised how much lower certain salaries are in relation to what is spouted.

I'd be amazed if yaya or ade are earning more than the club captain ....
