I was at both games lost 1-0 away and home.

Was in the Main Stand for the Lodz game..... along with what seemed like a few hundred Poles. Think every Polish exile in Manchester was at the game. Did we go 2 up in that only to be pegged back?? damn my memory !!
Yeah 2-0 up and then Boniek took over.
That night a spectator ran on the pitch and we were ordered to erect fences thereafter

IIRC, in the Lodz game, they pulled one back and then Willie Donachie got himself sent off, after which they equalised. That goal against our ten men was what ultimately saw them through.

Didn't we hit the woodwork away to Juve near the end, which, had it gone in, would have made it 2-1 on the night and sent us through on aggregate. The Rags in the next round were twatted 3-0 out there for an aggregate 3-1 but we actually gave them a bit of a scare, I think.

Both Juve and Milan won Serie A the year we played them and Juve won the UEFA Cup the same season, too. Shows what a cracking display that was at home to Milan.

Moenchangladbach won the UEFA Cup the season we went out to them. So in those three UEFA Cup campaigns, we lost to the eventual winners twice.

Always remember as a 9 yr old kid, switching on itn news at ten and one of the headlines was BONG!...".Manchester City nearly became the first british team to beat AC Milan on their own ground"
I,d never heard city mentioned on the proper news before and can remember feeling so proud at the time, the goal by Paul Power, running the length of the pitch t score..Barnes and Tuieart were my favs and the reason i started supporting City in 76, but Paul Power ( what a name) was catching them up already.....noticed Colin the King played in this game and was the first to congratulate Power after his goal....a little ironic maybe as Bell was almost two years into his comeback by then, but due to his injury ravaged career, was probably not capable of scoring the goal that Power did that afternoon..when moving from one penalty area to the next was his trademark in his prime.
Martin Buchan, you have a lot to answer for.and how did the FA reward you? a life long job for the boy in the corridors of power of english football.
Bell did so much more for english football with his 48 caps, but no such role for this shy humble man, who never hurt anyone and thrilled many.
such is life.but no agenda.

Yes Mike Lester, on as a sub I think, was the player who hit the post late on.
