City launch MLS Franchise

Its very clever that Claudio Reyna is involved. A former Blue, highly respected in the USA. Clearly thought this through very well.

Plus i met Claudio at the City panto a few years ago and he came across as a really really nice fella.

Im looking forward to the Red Bulls derby away. We have a minibus leaving Cheadle next Weds for the game :)

This only struck me after I'd logged off last night, but the new team is NYCF(ootball)C, and not NYCS(occer)C.

I find that very interesting, when football in the States is usually gridiron.

You'll find that football is used more and more by those that follow the sport in North America.

Four other teams use football in their name -- Toronto FC, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Seattle Sounders FC and FC Dallas (although it's Fútbol in Dallas' case).

So two of those teams are in Canada, which is a member of the Commonwealth, and in my experience, Commonwealth countries tend to use British terminology.

Seattle is very close to Canada and Dallas is in Texas, which has a large number of Hispanic / Mexican inhabitants, who would also use the term 'football', rather than 'soccer'.
Err no. People in Canada call it soccer and have about the same attitude towards it as Americans. Football means NFL or CFL (Canadian Football League). For most Canadians, professional Soccer means grown men diving to the ground and then rolling around as if they've been shot.

AWESOME.

Our owners must be congratulated on their foresight and forward thinking on what is going to be a fantastic journey over the coming years.
MCFC and NYCFC plus The Yankees of course will dominate the globe and i cant wait for it to happen.

Enjoy the summer everyone!

Think i'm goingto develop an interest in MLSand watch the NYCFC games.

Might even buy the shirt if its better than ours lol

What about the New York Cosmos?

<a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Cosmos_(2010" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Cosmos_(2010</a>)

Is there that big an opening for a new, New York football team?

Yes. First, the NY Red Bulls are actually based in New Jersey, so at present there is not an MLS presence in NYC proper.

Has Garry Cook's (sp) name been mentioned in any of this? ... I think it'd be right up his street!
I hope he is involved. He's a good kid. :-)
