sorry if it's been said earlier, but this deal has stopped Beckham launching his deal in MSL. No places left in league........rrrrrr what a shame !!!!!!!!!!

apparently he has been promised one as part of his original signing for galaxy, miami has been touted as a possible city. 'swot ive heard anyway!!

That is what I read NYC filled the last place in the league thus stopping Becks.
Nah. Only thing this has stopped is the line of bull the fake Cosmos were trying to sell to people that they were serious contenders for the spot.

Half-way there. Beckham's contract when he signed for the Galaxy in 2007 granted him the right to buy a franchise (most groups have to bid for them) for a fixed sum of $25m. He doesn't have to take up the option, but MLS can't deny him if he requests one. According to reports which seem believable, the only condition was that it couldn't be in NYC - probably because Don Garber has wanted to make an "NYC2" there for some time and wanted it to be his legacy, not Beckham's.

Nope. The MLS doesn't tend to do announcing multiple clubs at once, so the stories came out saying that Beckham was wanting to immediately create a club in MLS after retiring but now would have to wait to buy one, so it might be 4 or 5 years before he can exercise his right. More reports say that MLS want to take a break from adding new franchises having hit #20, but not stop forever. American leagues tend to favour having lots of clubs and the league could easily hit 28-30 clubs at its peak, but that will be at least 2-3 decades away.

I live over here in New York City and one of the things that bothers me the most about their sport is the lack of promotion/relegation. For the country that supposedly gave the world capitalism and staunch proponents of the free market system, there is something decidedly socialist about their sports framework. Even their transfer system (the 'Draft') stinks of socialism where, quite bizarrely, the shitest performing teams from last season get rewarded with the best players!

Logistics because of the scale also play a part in the US set up. England is about the size of Florida. Imagine a relagation system travelling to New York away.

Guess what?? this particular practice is GOOD BUSINESS!! Its all about competitive balance. Lets now look at the English, German, and Spanish leagues. Only two can have the chance to win the league in both England and Spain and, now, only really one can win it in Germany. How is this good, long term, for the sport???

The AFL is the same here, as are the Rugby codes, i think.
Then again Aussie's seem to love "level playing fields" in sport, Melbourne Cup (handicap), the Stall Gift (Human sprint race, where the fastest runners have to start further away from the finish line).
Always found it rather odd, although i am a proud socialist, but not in sports.

The Grand National and Stock Car Racing are the same here.

Here's my stab at a badge and kits for anyone who missed them in the other thread.

Which is based on this (the New York State crest) with a bit of our badge thrown in.

I have also tweaked my kits a bit and added my badge to them, hope you like.

I don't get why they place the team in Queens. I mean, the people there generally supports Mets. And they won't ever support a franchise that has any form of a connection with Yankees. So who do City expect will support this new club?

I see nycfc.com looks VERY similar to mcfc.co.uk

In fact so similar... its actually hosted on the very same web servers...
