It all just be down to age/preference and what a particular fan enjoys doing in their role as a City fan.
The blokes I used to go with were all alot older than me, so I took on their mentality of pub - football - pub - curry, which was almost ritual on a weekend especially. If one of us said 'fancy that MTV-style awards/disco that City are putting on?', they would get ripped apart.

The opposite of that of course is the fans who partake in anything the club does, or those with city-supporting kids. They will rightfully enjoy it, and good luck to them. All part of the new-era of supporting a football club in my eyes, and many fans, myself included, are stuck on the Kippax in the pissing down rain, looking forward to another shit load of beer after ;-)
You being stuck in that era may have something to do with the fact that you have not been a regular City goer for a decade now due to circumstance.
Right on cue, I knew you would reply with that.

No though, it has nothing to do with that, and it isn't a decade i've not been going, however that matters not. If my circumstances changed tomorrow and I could afford a season ticket for life, my match-going experience would be exactly what it was, as that is how I enjoyed my football.
It wasn't an attack, I was merely pointing out that it is a different atmosphere pre-game now, the likes of City Square have seen to that.

Didn't take it as one, I just knew you would come back with it.

I went to the Villareal game the season before last with my daughter. Whilst looking impressive, City Square is not my cup of tea, though I can see the type of fan it would appeal to. I'm not on my own in the way I see things and whilst I may 'only' be 35, I have that old school way of looking at football based on the years I spent going with blokes older than me. Like the way my dad and many his age can't get their heads around facebook and the like.

Hang on you negativity merchants, it also double as the awards from last year so it would be a good do to have a drink and watch the players receive their awards and get a chance to hear from our new manager addressing the fans I'm sure.

Think I'll probably make the effort if there's nowhere else I need be as I wouldn't want our new manager's first meeting with the fans to be a half empty room so I'll play my part.

Any excuse for a piss-up eh? ;)

Ha, I think the 'MTV Awards' comparison was the wrong choice of words. Understand where all the cheesy comments are coming from now. I get the comparison with the acts between awards etc but MTV Awards is all celeb culture bollocks - it could be a similar setup but the atmosphere/people will make it a more respectable event.

Your right with the changing of mentality but thats part and parcel with all the other changes in football, society, times etc. and players and fans living in different worlds nowadays.

I'm 42 (Ouch!) and will be attending this event with people with a group of blues age range of mid 20's - early 60's. The same people who I went to Dortmund away, Wembley x2 this year and tons of other domestic and european games over the years. Our night will be along the lines of: "pub - launch party - pub - curry".

They've not even announced the format or the guests yet and people are ready to stick the boot in. As I said earlier, for £25, you'd expect it to be a decent show.

Haha, fair play to you!

Some right drama queens on here.....nobody is asking you to go, seems like a good option for families and at £25, affordable too. Many of our fans think nothing of dropping £££ on an away fixture in PL or Europe but lots on here moaning at £25....

Think it's just City have become a more family oriented club now on whole. Holistic an all that ;)

Evident in the atmosphere at home matches now where the vocal support (bar the East/South Stand corner) is woeful compared to the past. Reckon we have the best away support in the country though, our fans are heard above home sections wherever we go.

odd that this is announced, considering we were all told that the "big July announcement" would come to the people who signed up over email first ...

hmmmmmm...........
