City matchday presenters sacked over podcast (P6)

Whilst we have all been brought up with political correctness, I’ve suddenly become really uncomfortable with it. The retired guy I sit with used to regularly make those racist remarks that he didn’t realise were racist until we drummed it out of him. However, if some sections of society can say what they like without reproach and are absolutely determined to be offended or even worse vicariously offended by everything, I start to question myself.

If someone is brave enough to parody foreign accents and think it’s funny, fine. It’s about as funny as toothache and I won’t listen. That’s my opinion and my choice. Somebody else may have found it hilarious. This is the way it is now, thought crime and no freedom of speech. Give them their jobs back. I don’t want a world full of banal Hugh Whatshisface and main stream media Dan Walker types, all pc but armed to the teeth with snide comments from the agenda approved racism against our club. The double standards make me sick.

Damo, you're too much of an intelligent guy to be making strawman arguments like this. There's space for nuanced discussion about this issue because it's a complex one, we don't need to resort to stuff like this, do we?
 
In the same way nobody has the right to tell another person what is and isn't funny, others shouldn't similarly be so obtuse to tell people what they can and can't be offended about.

As has been evidenced in other fucking teeeeeeedious threads there's always going to be a "fucking snowflake millenials" and "you just can't say that kind of shit anymore" split, why are we all wasting our time? Again.

I've no doubt that either of them is a racist/homophobic. I don't think they are. At all.

However, their comments were probably ill advised and born out of a desperation to be funny. Unfortunately they've not struck the right tone and they've paid for it.

Never found them funny personally but understand they appeal to a certain crowd.

Also those referencing Hugh Ferris, grow the fuck up.

Right, anyone up for another Bernard Manning thread? Seems this one has the same fan boys on each side so maybe we can just change the thread topic?

Listen to about 5/10 mins of that sausage podcast had to turn it off could see where it was heading utter crap
 
A part of me is thinking City were just waiting waiting for these two to give themselves enough rope?

There were some uncomfortable moments pre-match last season where I thought the two were pushing the boundaries between taste and poking fun at the expense of some people, mainly kids and young mums, when it came to innuendo and getting a cheap laugh.

You have to be all things to all people when it comes to fronting the so-called matchday experience.

It had become a little bit in-house standing at the bar kinda delivery, although I'm sure no racist slight was intended by them, just an ignorance of a society thay can be quick to offend and equally quick to be offended.

As a white British male, I have no inkling how other groups would feel.
