City to expand Etihad to 62,000?

The single tier would be paid for by the hugely expanded superstore and an indoor fan zone of scale beneath the stand.

The club are doing feasibility studies. The man who told me about he single tier option (I was the first to mention it in here) told me very recently it is still the aim. They don’t need any more corporate boxes. They recognise the business plan of younger fans and pay on the day options.

Be patient - it will happen.

Be fantastic if it does.

If we do employ safe standing say behind either NS or SS how many would that raise the capacity by?
Should we change the thread title to 65000? :)

Does anyone else think City are now maxed out with corporate and hospitality areas at the Etihad? (I do)

It's fair to say City have carved the Etihad up to fit these new areas alongside normal seating. You all know what changes have taken place.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I think as a club we've reached peak corporate and hospitality on matchday's?

It's now time for the club to get back to 'basics at the Etihad', and to create more affordable seating and/or safe standing areas so more general and working class City fans can afford to start going to the matches.

Yes, Spurs have created a great single tier, but in the process, and to pay for the spiralling construction costs of the new stadium, they are charging a premium price for those seats. Something that hasn't been lost on the Tottenham fans.

City already have a stadium. Now there is one final opportunity to expand it by building a large single or double tiered stand at the North Stand end of the ground. And one last opportunity to create a stand that is large enough and affordable enough to attract and to cater for 10,000's of City fans who currently can't get season tickets, matchday tickets, or can't afford them.

At last season's title winning parade there were an estimated 100,000+ City fans in the city centre. 50,000 more than the capacity of the Etihad. (you do the maths)

There were over 110,000 unique City fans who went to games in 2016/17.

I was buying my matchday tickets for the season yesterday and finding 2 seats together in the 1 st two tiers is getting harder, in fact the first home and last we ended up with two seats seperated by one, hpefully theynwill swap. Only place with a few together was back third tiers. They aren't even on sale to non members yet. Might add a couple of games when resales appear.
Now is definatly the time to get on with it or we will be turning away future fans, hopefully @worsleyweb is right when he says it's coming. But any reduction to build it will hurt a few regular if not s/c fans as tickets will be even harder for us to find.

I am keen to see the North Stand expanded but the design of a new Stand alone won’t address the “too cool chant” brigade at City. Even half of the singing block won’t sing, despite the best efforts of 1894.

I have been to watch Atalanta in Italy and the ultras at the front of the Curva Nord don’t allow piss takers to stand quietly with their hands in their pockets. People are pointed out and not battered but at least it puts a bit of pressure on everyone to join in the singing (especially in Stands where the fans are expected sing throughout the game).

It doesn't help at all in a singing block when non singers stand between, it puts people off singing. You notice how when we score the whole block sings, then that's it its down to the 100 or so that carry it on.

I still say we sing wrong songs and try to pack 15 different songs in 15 minutes which confuses the block. If the block is quite it needs a long song carried on. Fans frustrated by a quite block start belting out "stand up if you love city" "bluemoon" "who needs gold" "oh ballotelli" all back to back without a break between. All it does is cause confusion and even less singing.

The good ultras that come to our stadium have a minute with no song then a build up to singing, clapping and carrying it on for a few rounds. This builds up momentum and gives fans a chance to join in. As well as singers grouping together we need to have a change from these short bursts of songs and 20 songs in 10 minutes.

It would depend on whether the Football Licensing Authority allows more than a one person per seat space allocation like in Germany. Celtic’s capacity remained the same with their safe standing area because it still remained as one person per seat allocated.
