City to expand Etihad to 62,000?

With no research on this, I think if it was introduced in England clubs would do it by ripping out the old seats and putting in rail seats bolted on to the existing concrete steps - that would mean no change in capacity.

Only way you could increase capacity would be by replacing and reconfiguring the terrace so that say you had 50 rows before, you now have 70. I can't see any clubs relaying their stands. might be some scope for some clubs who are extending grounds to plan for it.

You have no grasp of how this works and the article was inaccurate so please don't base the judgements based on its content.

Any safe standing sections would increase capacity.

I have 3 issues with the Ultras.

1. You are told/promted what to sing. You aren't allowed to start a chant. You have no say in what chant get's started or when. Only the Ultras at the front can do that.
2. There are breaks in the chanting while the Ultras at the front decide whatto chant next. Napoli fans at the Etihad was the worst example of that I have ever seen. Stop. Start. Discuss. Organise. Wait. Chant. Repeat.
3. Some of the Ultra groups carry on singing regardless of a goal being conceded by their team. Even though it sounds loud, impressive and I'm sure the players appreciate the continued support, it's continual and monotonous. There is no emotion shown by the fans. They are like programmed robots. The German fans are the worst for that.

It would be great if we could create some sort of happy medium at the Etihad.

The Napoli ultras where odd and very robotic, wouldn't work with English fans. We thrive on spontaneous songs dictated by the game, referee being a C*** ( most games to be honest ! ) or jack Wilshire a knob, also we have far more player songs than euro fans therefore if a particular player is having a good game his name is belted out. About the best player song was ballotelli, it got going well, if only we could have had a bunce going at same time. Who could forget ewood park after ballo's goal, the Poznan followed by his song ringing round.

Could do with some more club anthem songs that can between spontaneous songs get belted out round the stadium. While we couldn't go all fully organised we could have a happy medium like you say.

Which is it first Marvin, or the article that is wrong?

Except the blocks at Celtic, which is the only comparable example in Britain so far.

I agree with iu and JRB about finding a middle ground between the ultra approach and what we have now.

At the games I have been to in Germany and Italy, there has been a wider age range of fans really getting behind the team (compared to the Etihad) eg more fans who look like students. I also think more of the fans are willing to sacrifice their own view to
Improve the atmosphere eg it’s no big deal to miss a few minutes of the game to hold a massive flag above the fans heads. If this was at City, the Club would be inundated with people wanting ticket refunds.

There are fans wanting to come in to 115 but cant get the seats they want, those seats taken up by none singers. This is another issue we have.

But yes often fans complain about a surfer or drop down without thinking its literally a minute or two. Even I miss parts of the game going for a p**s or saying something to a mate or grabbing a drink. Its only the same apart from its our beloved badge on view.

It’s a bout time the non singers were booted out. No doubt I will have a Bluemooners or 2 queueing up to say I have picking on lifelong fans who have just had their tonsils removed.

Shirley that would be a mute point - arf!

And yes, I know it’s supposed to be moot, but where’s the fun in that...

There is a clue for Blues who buy their tickets in the “Singing Section”. The quiet types
Ha e the rest of the ground to choose from!

If the persons per seat is constant, and the seat width is fixed, and the depth is fixed by the prefabricated terrace, how does capacity go up?

The article was surprising because hitherto I had assumed capacity would go up, but now I am not so sure. Can you explain?
