City v Boro post match

Prior to his ban Nolito was a regular, now he is not. If he hadn't been a dick things could be so much better. Who knows? Why managers suddenly decide to stop picking a player in form I don't know.
I agree about nolito been great so far

I'll tell you what our deficiency is - mental weakness. There are too many players in our team that switch off or shrug their shoulders and give up when things get a bit tough. I've said this before and it showed again today. The worst culprits in my view are two of our finest ever players - Silva & Aguero - and I fear both will be in danger of going this summer if they don't toughen up. Neither are much less talented than players like Messi or Suarez but neither has that will to win that marks those two out. Players like Tevez, Keane, Vieira, even Andy Morrison, who took games and their teams by the scruff of the neck. Silva in particular is a complete powder-puff of a player - great when he's got time and space but fuck all use when he needs to dig a bit deeper.

When I look at the great sides in my lifetime, the 60's team and that of the late '70's, I see players like Book, Doyle, Pardoe, Oakes, Summerbee, Bell, Lee, Tueart, Hartford, Watson, Kidd, Royle, Donachie. There were enough players to carry the one or two, like Peter Barnes & Neil Young, who may have been a bit more mentally fragile. Today we maybe had 3 or 4 who had that mental toughness - the desire and will to win, the strength not to make mistakes and to take responsibility when things get a bit tough. I just don't see enough of those players in my team and that's Pep's biggest problem.
Proof again that age doesn't necessarily provide wisdom or knowledge.

Revert to type.. getting kicked to shit for your pleasure yet again. Should've been subbed due to fatigue around 70 mins. Mind you the whole team bar maybe Navas & Stones were as worthy to be subbed due to their individual performances yesterday.

Mental toughness? You have no idea how tough the little fucker is..

I believe all the players mentioned have done enough for a start at home against Boro. Especially after a huge midweek game. Vinny appears fit enough for Martinez to say he will play for Belgium this week.

We're playing a totally new way which will take time. I think it's ridiculous to try and compare it to last season when we were playing a recognised and well worn style. To answer your question though, for the whole, I think we are better.
Looking at the teams we have played and the constant messing about with the team selections I'm not convinced ,pick your centre backs and stick with it not change it every game.
We managedcto put the lesser teams away last year but carnt this time and we've only played spurs of note yet

6 points dropped at home to teams we really should be beating, four of those dropped after tough CL games. International break now and then 3 away games and then Chelsea at home. I'd expect us to beat Palace and BM but we'll struggle against Burnley. Our top players struggle to get through three games a week. Chelsea and Liverpool at the moment have a massive advantage but things should even out after we've completed the group stage CL games. Just hope the gap between us and Chelsea doesn't get to big before we meet on 3rd December...

At the end of the day, Boro did exactly what they came to do:

Not concede more than one, and then start pressing us from the 85th minute.

A lot of teams are happy for us to pass it around outside their box.

Pep was correct yesterday that we need to be better in both boxes.

I know pep is insisting on his way to do things and we all have our views about how well or badly individual players did yesterday but the fact remains that the way to win in football is to score more goals than the opposition.
Defence prevents the latter but when we actually create chances and chronically fail to take them surely this warrants some sort of attention as a priority by the manager.

Marvelous that we play good football and dominate possession and now even play out from the back but until we learn to maximise our chances by improving conversion ratios it matters little.
Discussing how we make chances is all well and good and will help to gloss over our conversion rate if chances improve but why is it that the existing chances are so evasive yet Clubs who park the bus on us seem to only need one sniff or mistake by us to score ?

All down to poor finishing IMO, but overall, I think we are moving in the right direction and have improved

Too many players display a sort of arrogance based complacency in their ability, performance & reputation.

The game seems so easy for some of them that they forget to do the dirty work in closing a game out or getting it won.

They are like artists who stand back to admire their work while someone nicks the canvas.

We have to develop the ALL BLACKS mentality....Relentless,Remorseless,Ruthless & ULTRA-PROFFESIONAL !!

We will not achieve greatness until we take that final step.
