City v Chelsea (fa cup. 5 th round ) post match thread

Overall our work rate was excellent today, but I thought that Milner and Kompany were superb. I think we learned from the last game against Chelsea that if you stand off them, they are good enough to play through you and\or have the individual skills to beat their man. This time we were all over them the minute they touched the ball or even showed an intent to touch the ball.

Previous poster mentioned Clichy not getting forwards enough - I thought it was a deliberate ploy by City to nullify Ivanovic breaking as he tends to play more like a wing back than a full back, with their left back tucking in to make it a back three. The other factor that nullified their threat down the wings was the work rate of Silva and Milner (who I've already lauded).

Barca will be an immense challenge but I hope that the players have proved to themselves how effective they can be when they combine an enormous work rate with their undoubted talent.

Final point - well done the Manager. Don't get involved with Maureen and instead spend the time developing our game plan to address the issues identified by the previous defeat against Chelsea.

Think Garcia, Milner and Yaya need to start against Barca providing the steal in the middle , with Merlin and Jovitic providing the flair
Milner suspended mate[/quote]

That's a sickener !! Very underused and underrated my mp this season, and proved to be part of the problem solving away at Munich..

Absolutely outstanding. Garcia and Lescott looked invincible and I only single them out as they're usually being the targeted for the wrong reasons.mWell done the whole team.

One thing though, is it just me or is there just sometimes that Pants instills more confidence in the team? especially plucking those crosses out of the air for fun? Don't get me wrong, I'm a big joe hart fan but it's great that we have such a competent option.

Maybe Pants inspires the defenders to work harder. He has this underdog, rags-to-riches, hardworker aura and it rubs off the players.

Had also crossed my mind slightly. not for those reasons but probably nothing in it though.

Clichy lescott and gracia all had a very decent game tonight.

The chelsea fans around me were begging for a consolation goal lool !

Fair play to chelsea players tho their head didn't drop after going 2-0 down. I wish it did, would have opened the flood gates haha !

That was as comprehensive a beating as we've given any team this season we've proved our mental fortitude and with our best players looking sharp and our injured getting back to full fitness things are looking good bring on Barca ................. C'MON !!!!!!!

Think the Barca game has come two weeks too early if I'm honest

Nas back looking sharp, serge might even make the bench and Pell could risk him for 30 mins depending on how the games going and the workrate on display today if we press Barca and deny them space and time like we did to Chelsea anythings possible.

don't get me wrong I thought we were brilliant today but pressing Chelsea like that is one thing but pressing Barca like that is a different thing all together

First time I've posted but a massive City fan and this is a fantastic forum. Just so happy tonight with performance and result particularly after having to put up with Mourinho's comments of late. The Engineer should sleep well tionight - he deserves to. I do hope at some point the City fans will somehow make him feel at home as on my recent trips to the Etihad there doesn't appear to be any love shown to him. Tonight the Chelsea fans were continually shouting for there little manager and the atmosphere when Mancini was here and everyone chanted his name was electric. My son and myself even shouted along to it watching the blues on tv. He is doing at least as well as Mancini would have done and probably better. We all appreciate what Mancini did for us but that should not affect our appreciation for what Pellegrini is doing - a good job. CTID.

oo-er

Kompany cemented Hazard in the first minutes, and he didn't come back for seconds. Once Chelsea had to withdraw a central midfielder, it was clear they couldn't cope with our fluid play, and I think a few more teams will look at playing three solid midfielders against Chelsea in the coming weeks.
