City v Chelsea Post Match Thread

I'm cheerful, once I knew Ferna was out injured I expected nothing from the game so I'd prepared myself for disappointment

Strangely, I think this loss will do us good. I think the mentality at home before the Chelsea game was a case of "ok, how many are we going to score today?". A kick up the arse for complacency last night.

I don't think we were complacent at all.

No I don't.

We were beaten by a side who knew how to play us and carried out their plan to perfection. That's what so worrying.

No, neither do I. Complacency against Watford, for sure, probably against Blackburn too in the first match at Ewood Park. Not Chelsea. Vinny was totally fired up, so was Yaya, to name just those two. No, I just think Chelsea got their game plan absolutely right, they had a player who was totally on fire (Hazard) and we are just missing a player too many. Plus, as many have noted, Beast didn't seem to be properly over his injury, so in effect he was another injury who happened to be on the pitch. I do not think that we have suddenly become a bad, mediocre, or even a good team. In sheer skill, we are the best in the league and everybody recognizes it (and by the way we're still second if anybody's failed to notice). We lost the chance to put clear daylight between ourselves and Chelsea. That's a great pity, but that's all that should be read into it. I honestly think that a lot of people on here could be surprised at how we bounce back against Norwich. And if Negredo is still not properly fit, then Jovetic right from the start please, up front with Dzeko.

Didn't have the stomach for this thread last night and still not trawled through it but.. has anyone offered a suggestion as to why we reverted to hoofing every goal kick up field?... it wasn't as though we were mixing it up as Joe hoofed it every time, we hardly won any headers or even second balls for that matter.

We couldn't play it out from the back, so had to hoof it a lot, because A) Chelsea flooded the midfield and pressed well + B) Demichelis in the DM position can't bring the ball forward and can't pass forward very well.

Winning the second balls was an issue because of Chelsea having so many in midfield too. The fact that neither Negredo or Dzeko could hold the ball up didn't help.

Fernandinho could have made a big difference to that game because of his passing and movement. Hell, even Javi Garcia can pass it forward quite well.
I think winning second balls was more an issue of sharpness, we were second to almost all 50/50 balls when it was 1 man vs 1. We were also second best to most aerial balls. This has little to do with how many players were in midfield. We didn't match them man for man last night, even Yaya had the ball taken off him many times, when usually he's a thorn in the opposition's side once in possession. We went out with what we had available, and it needed everyone to be on their game. Just one of those matches where we got out-muscled and outplayed. We'll come back firing I'm sure.

Isn't that more resignation that cheerfulness.

The first one doesn't make me feel any better after the event.

So how was that bus for you ?

The arrogance from the majority pre game was astounding !! Lots of "we're going to win 4 and 5-0's" " Jose is going
to be taught a lesson by Pelligrini, "we are the best team in the World we'll smash them"

I suggested a bit of humility and less arrogance wouldn't go a miss and just got abuse....well reading through the thread it appears some (suspect not many of the arrogant ones) have now got that humility.

As for the comparative managers, ironic that after the abuse hurled at Jose on here it was Pelligrinis post match interview that was classless and reaked of bitterness. Talk of "luck" "missing players" (fernandinho, nasri and aguerro all played at the Bridge) "money spent" tut tut I'm guessing there will much disgust on here about his lack of class.

That all said I still think you'll probably win the league but we'll give you a run for your money.
With a post like that of such I-told-you-so smugness I'm surprised it took you this long to post it. I'm not going to abuse you, you'll have been given plenty already. Chelsea were difficult for us to 'get at' judging by the sour one's animated touchline exploits this result meant a lot. That's testament in my eyes to how good a side we are. If i may make a suggestion of my own? You want humility stick to rentboysareus.com or whatever forum there is for Chelsea. We've averaged just under four goals a game at home all season, you'll appreciate why so many thought we could get a few against your lot too?
