City v Everton Post Match Thread

It was a well deserved win for City, Everton hardly looking like scoring except for Lukaku drawing a world class save from Hart, where as we could have three or four had our players shown more composure in front of goal. We were very well organised defensively, except for those rash challenges by Mangala and Fernando, we were never suspect at the back. It was a complete team performance where almost everybody, especially our attacking and midfield players put a real shift in. The only downfall was Aguero's injury.

the attitude and work-rate of the whole team got us through a tough match, outstanding performances from certain players was great to see. No-one was a let down
The value of an admittedly expensive, deep squad is plain for all to see when you consider the players missing, but the lack of striker cover has left us short in a crucial area. An injury to Edin could leave the cupboard bare. Bony ???
Pozo was chucked in at the deep end, very unlucky not to score, his overall game will improve having mixed with the big lads and done well
Frank Lampard has to stay, his impact was instantaneous, pure class.

Don't know how Pellegrini kept so calm... I would've defineatly chinned the smug cnut!!

I just can't listen to their commentary on our matches, I'd sooner not know what's going on. The commentator, that idiot Collymore, and the guy on touchline just make me want to kill someone.

I don't much like some of the people on 5live, but they make talksport seem fair and balanced.

No one seems to mention the fact that we kept a clean sheet yesterday against a team that had before yesterday scored in every away game. Considering we had out best defender and captain out and were a little demoralised due to the aguero injury, I think it was quite the achievement. There are no mercenaries in our team that la k passion, nasri, cliche, yaya, Milner all shown us they care and put in a massive performance. I love Manchester City Football Club.

After reading the match thread on an Everton forum, I was surprised at the vitriol aimed at Barry. He must be having a poor season, but you'd think he'd earned a bit of leeway after last seasons heroics. I remember reading in the media that it took the knowledgeable Everton fans to finally appreciate him. I guess that hasn't worked out too well.
There was also a few calls for Martinez to be sacked which surprised me. Most of them thought we'd paid the ref. Fuck knows what they'd be like if they'd suffered from some of the refs we've had this year.
The reaction to Aguero being injured was pretty decent and nice to read. Especially as the comments were made during the match when most fans would just be glad he was going off. Most of them were gutted and that was a pleasant surprise after reading Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Rag forums, because they were all praying for him to get injured. So fair play to them for that.
I was a little disappointed in Martinez post match comments too. He had every right to be angry about Mangala not being sent off, but Fernando was a yellow, no way was it a straight red. Mirallis should have picked up a second yellow and Barry should have too, as well as a straight red for the elbow. He managed not to mention that though. His comment about Everton controlling the game was pretty strange too.
He must be feeling the pressure.

Why were you surprised? Barry divided the opinions of the City faithful more than any other player I can remember. Some saw him as the new Beckenbauer (sp) whilst lots of us saw him a a midfield slug who was a liability and from what you are saying he may well be doing the same at woodison, however he may have become even slower ( if that is actually possible ) over the last couple of seasons. He should have been sent off today and from what I can remember he has gotten away with reds on about three or four occasions this season buts that's just probably down to him being English though.

Reminded me very much of the type of game Utd use to be involved in during their glory days, tense, get a goal, lose possession and then win it back, get a few ref decisions go your way and more importantly witness the players reaction at the end they knew it was a huge win it was the same reaction they showed at Everton last April, the fight and desire has returned. Any other team and Milner would be captain he was superb today as was a number of the team.

I was surprised because last season Everton fans were crowing that they had pulled off the coup of the century by signing him. They were gushing in praise for him and laughed at us for getting rid.
I was surprised by the fickle nature of them. I don't think I've seen a set of fans turn so quick.
As for any City fans who slagged off Barry's contribution to us, they are utter fucking idiots.

Didn't enjoy that as it was too tense. Everton have reverted to the kicking team of Moyes and we're now without one of the best players in the world.
And that's the nub of it: Sergio is absolutely one of the best. Edin is just back from injury, Jovetic was out yesterday and although he's stayed fit this season he missed much of last, and Pozo is untried at this level. The decision to allow Negredo to leave without bringing in a replacement (even a mid-table one) might bite us on the arse.
It's annoying as Sergio and Jovetic were out for a lot of last season too and it was clearly a gamble.
Had we kept Sergio fit for another month we could have recalled Guidetti from Celtic. I know it's a pub league but the main concern was his fitness and he seems to have proved he's recovered from illness and injury.
But thinking positively: We won the league last season and Sergio missed a fair chunk of it, I assume Silva will be back soon and while he rarely scores he'll create plenty, and Yaya and Frank can always contribute a few from midfield.
Edin has done the business in the past and it's time for him to do it again.
As for the game: The penalty looked a bit soft at the time but I thought it was well-spotted on MOTD, Mangala is almost as uncoordinated as that Ghost Train dummy at Klanfield and Howard had more to do than Hart. And for all his hard work Navas still lacks something. Distin and his Zimmer frame shouldn't present problems to someone with a bit of pace.
Oh, and Barkley will end up at the swamp based on his diving ability.
