City v Everton post match

I was just thinking about the penalties... we have a German in our squad now, surely he should take the penalties? Failing that Kelechi should take the next one that comes along.

The last match I saw was the game against Bournemouth, then we went on holiday for a fortnight and I missed the games against Swansea, Spurs and Celtic. The only source of news I had wad the edition of the Daily Mail produced for expats on the Costa del Sol. Not surprisingly I was fed reports of a team in crisis and a manager who had been revealed as a fraud! So I settled back to watch the match yesterday with feelings of some trepidation. I know Everton are a good side with a very good manager who has concentrated on the defence after the neglect of the Martinez years. But my feelings of trpidation must have lasted ten minutes at most. The team had lost none of its energy, dynamism, tactical nous and technical brilliance (especially Silva). Everton never got out of their own half for much of the first half, but this was not by design, this was because we smothered them in midfield and Sane and Sterling pegged their full backs right back. Everton were forced back and play was concentrated around their box. They are a well organised team and it is naive to believe that City would create a hat full of chances. Indeed the Everton defence (and midfield and attack!) cut out crosses and blocked shots. Had KdB put the penalty away the first half would have been highly satisfactory. The second half was a little more competitive but City continued to play well and have shots blockd by the serried ranks of Everton defenders ... and then it happened. I'm sure that Pep can analyse it and identify City errors, but I can't. The ball ran kindly for Everton but Lukaku took his goal very well indeed. A real sickener, especially when Sergio had yet another penalty saved. I think that Pep showed his mettle at this point. Sane had had a good day (on both flanks) but was fading a little - bringing on Nollito was a good move, but playing him down the middle was superb. KdB put his howitzer of a shot in, coming in from the left but it was Nollito down the middle who nodded in the equaliser. A very good performance by all the team, a truly resilient performance from Everton (who may well compete for a top four finish) ut if we are worried about anything it's that a comfortable victory turned into a draw because we missed two MORE penalties. But crisis? Not on your life!

Was mine and the lads first live game, this season. Wasn't disappointed.
Sure there are times when i think we should shoot more. But the bottom line is,
Everton got lucky, especially with defelections. We need a new penalty taker.
Sergio has lost all confidence. But we are definately heading in the right direction.
To all those moaning about us being shit at this and shit at that, maybe you should listen
to what Koeman had to say about us.

It's quite easy to get back quickly and fill a space if you don't move from it in the first place

But that wasn't the case every time. I noticed it early so I was watching out for it more, we won possession back the odd time Everton tried to go forward and for a few seconds we had even numbers against them instead of a brick wall. I counted at least 5 occasions we slowed it down or cut back and instead of penetrating them or cutting them open at their most vulnerable we allowed bodies to get back. Isn't the end of the world but it's just how we played yesterday

Can't believe some of the negative comments on here - we played some fantastic football yesterday against a well drilled team with good players and still created a good amount of chances to have won.
You're gonna get days like this but to question the performance or mentality of the players as some have is baffling. All I see is a team that is only going to get better with time and I for one am fully enjoying the ride.
Too many slapped arse "Fans" who are now thinking that we have a Devine right to win games - get a grip, be disappointed we didn't win but don't question the effort, desire, mentality and that performance.
And relax.....

Hehe, i fully agree, Koeman is the grandfather of the modern definition of a defender at the very top. He played the ball rather a lot and took a few free kicks for Barca if memory serves. They may have got lucky, hey it happens, but they were also very solid at the back under extreme pressure. Everton will end the season with fewest goals against if they play half as well in a defensive sense for the rest of the season. We played 'pretty good' and still had them under the hammer all match.

There is no better time than right now in my opinion as a fan given our dynamics (of any club), espesh if you are 15+yo.

Being happy to shoot wins you nothing - bit like missing the treble 20 at darts. Davis Silva never has been, and never will be a prolific goalscorer. There are times we wish he would pull the trigger, of course, but if that was at the forefront of his mind, you simply wouldn't end up with the unselfish playmaker that David Silva is. He absolutely knows his role in the team, and that's why he gets the respect of so many professionals and fans alike. It's a bit like having a drummer in a band that unselfishly keeps things ticking over - yet expecting him to play the role of 'Animal' from the Muppets once or twice a session just to get noticed, grab attention or make headlines.

I'm not suggesting he stops thinking of assists mate, just maybe alters the balance of decision making, from maybe 95:5 in favour of passing over shooting to maybe 85:15 y'know.
Look at his recent goals for Spain - he could score more than he does IMHO
