City v Hull - pre-match thread

To be fair I think we lost to Middlesboro once under Pellers but I can't recall another occasion where we were beaten by lower league opponents.
We also underestimated Newcastle at home in the last 16 of the same cup last year, losing 2-0. I realise Newcastle weren't actually playing in a lower division but there is no way we should have lost to them. Hull are arguably playing at a higher standard than towards the bottom of the PL?
Until last Friday Hull were unbeaten since September and top of the Championship.

1. This game is not going to be easy ... although on paper this was the weakest you could draw, but then that's exactly been our issue where we think we just need to turn up to win ...

2. What's with the ticket sales? Why are people staying away? It's a Quarter Final ffs and priced very reasonably at that ...

3. Pellegrini will pick the strongest possible XI as he has always done from the day he arrived, that was the reason this was the first pot he won with us ... it depends then on those XI to also turn up ... whenever we have failed, we have simply failed because our players didn't put a shift in and thought the opposition should just roll over ... Newcastle had come with kids and we had our strongest side out and still lost so it's not up to Pellers on who to put out there but whoever he puts out will need to play for full 90 mins to win it.

4. Aguero is out for Stoke and Gladbach both (and of course for this Hull game, but then he wasn't ever gonna start in this one anyway) ... Now up to Pellers whether he saves Bony for Stoke and Gladbach and starts Nacho or wants Bony to get some game time and some confidence ahead of those two ... let's see how it goes. But Bony so far has been much worse than Dzeko ever was for us. I have a feeling he might go 4-4-2 again and will start them both.

5. Whatever happens, no more injuries please!

I had exactly the same thoughts about Crystal Palace in the last round.
We must have won that as we are here in the quarters.
Palace are a Prem team. We tend to win those except when we least expect it ( Newcastle last season).

I did say "real scare" and you appear to have forgotten the defeat to Wigan. Sheff Wed (FA Cup) and Watford were not much fun either.
Sorry to say it but Pellers has a real problem against 1st Division sides at home - Sheffield Wed (LC) asside.

Couldn't agree more he's really struggled with these sides ever since he took over. Wigan and boro we're probably the worst performances we've had at home under him. You can probably throw hull game from last season aswell into that.

Yes, it looks like it will be our lowest gate of the season. I've been keeping an eye on 113 to gauge sales as there are no cup scheme members in that area. We've currently sold 15 tickets which is appalling given all the talk of Operation One End last season. Mind you we'd only sold 10 tickets 24 hours ago so there might be a late surge starting!

Been a few cup games this season where there has been a huge late surge in sales - we shifted thousands in the 24 hours leading up to the Juve, Palace, and Seville games so could still be a decent crowd. That said, sales up to this point have been much slower than any of those games. Palace had the advantage of being half-term so plenty of kids in attendance but this is the quarter final and prices are very reasonable.
