City v Liverpool Post Match Thread

btw whats all this shit about horrible defending.. it was more like the passing and angles where undefendable... Some of the passes merlin did u just cannot defend, as for liverpool aswell. it was the best high quality football game both sides even back and forth. it was quite breathtaking at times.

-- Fri Dec 27, 2013 2:40 am --

That was one hell of a ride.... Yes we kept suarez quite but the goal scoring threat did not come from him it shows they are just not a 1 man team... they are dead cert for top 4 imo... Merlin, zab, and neg where outstanding today but motm was joe... IMHO it should have been a draw.. but who cares 3 points is 3 points

So are you now back to being a Liverpool fan?

erm no... it was an even game both sides played like men possessed the passing everything.. the fair result should have been a draw but thats just imo.

ESPN FC just said Suarez made VK look really average lol.

Probably just lazy journalism...after all Suarez can make any defender look average in all fairness.

One of the best players in the world...certainly the best in the Premier League right now....no question of that.

Can't be arsed typing out a large post on the subject as the thread moves too quick tonight, however I was very impressed with the dippers formation and tactics.

When they had the ball they effectively played 3 at the back with Lucas dropping between the 2 centre halves and then had 4 wingers, 2 on either side, where the fullbacks played alongside the 2 orthodox wingers.

I'm sure someone will do a more in depth study of it using those heatmap thingys but I'm sure it will show how advanced their 2 fullbacks were and how Lucas played between Skrtel and Sakho.

we struggled to deal with it for a fair portion of the game and it allowed them to move the ball up the pitch with ease.

They seemed to mirror our formation at times with Coutinho and Sterling constantly coming narrow, and both Henderson and Allen making runs in behind our centre halves. They effectively tried to play us at our own game and nearly pulled it off.

I don't think enough credit has been given to MP, he could've easily stuck with 4-4-2 which has worked until now at home but made the decision to match the dippers with 4-2-3-1.

It was a tight game but it was the right decision, if we played 4-4-2 they would've overrun us in midfield, as it was Yaya struggled with the mobility of Henderson and Allen.

That is pretty much the worst we have played at home this season. Against the best side we have played - who were completely playing out of their skin. We still bet them so what does that say ?

We were also missing a world class forward and one our first choice centre halfs (actually lescott is probably 4th choice these days) so its not like we had our strongest side or we played anywhere near our best.

Even if they had pulled another goal back I am confident we would have gone and scored another, bringing on the players required to do so. That's how we roll these days.
