City v Liverpool Post Match Thread

We were crap, as were the tactics, or distinct lack of them.

That's not football, basically goading your opponent to knock you out by lowering your hands and sticking your chin out.

Liverpool were no great shakes, a slightly upgraded version of Swansea, who also caused us the same problem between our midfield and defenders.

When Aguero is missing and Negredo is up top on his own, our shortcomings on the back foot are just more pronounced as we lack that extra consideration that opponents have to usually accommodate for.

Lescott should never play for us again, it was clear to see how important it is having a second central defender in Demichelis, who can actually pass a ball forward out of the backline.

Well done Joe Hart, but I thought the rest of the lads are starting to look leggy, our squad depth and quality is nothing of the sort.

What a fantastic result, though. Even at 60 per cent we can get the job done.

Please Manuel, go cap in hand this January.

One left back, one central defender and a world class midfielder.

They seemed to mirror our formation at times with Coutinho and Sterling constantly coming narrow, and both Henderson and Allen making runs in behind our centre halves. They effectively tried to play us at our own game and nearly pulled it off.

I don't think enough credit has been given to MP, he could've easily stuck with 4-4-2 which has worked until now at home but made the decision to match the dippers with 4-2-3-1.

It was a tight game but it was the right decision, if we played 4-4-2 they would've overrun us in midfield, as it was Yaya struggled with the mobility of Henderson and Allen.

Yeah, I think it was definitely the right call. Suppose you could argue Aguero being injured forced his hand.

I thoroughly enjoyed the game I have to say. Arguably the best football I've seen in the PL. Liverpool look the real deal. Would love to see them keep the rags out of the top 4.

He could've started with Dzeko alongside the Beast up top like he did at Fulham but he had the sense to match the dippers formation, either that or he saw enough at Fulham to think Dzeko and the Beast can't play together?

Bin Dippers will be lucky to finish 4th - squad is far too thin to keep going IMO, they've peaked too early.

Check their record in 2013. Also they've had Suarez missing, Sturridge missing, Coutinho missing, Allen missing at various points for quite a while.

Time will tell, but for my money they're the real deal this season. They look a much better team than the rags and Spurs.

there wasn't a lot Pelle could have done else today, it's clear we lack quality depth in several positions in the squad, and whilst I'm loving Fern and Yaya it's clear they'll need a rest and need to rotate and they need adequate replacements in the squad.

Very strange post from Tolmies hairdo!!

Ducado did you get your coat changed??

They were in better form on the night and tactically set the agenda. To win despite that I think shows strength of character.

I also think that the much demanded 4231 isn't the panacea some expect. We need more subtle changes, starting with individual defending. Collective changes will follow on from that.

Not great but got the result thankfully.

Onwards and upwards.

We'll only face a side that good offensively in the CL.
