City v Liverpool Post Match Thread

Another thing mr Rodgers seems to forget are the 2 opportunities Liverpool had that were MILES offside, remember the back heel flick thing Henderson tried to do? When the ball came in originally he was 3 yards offside but he had the last effort on goal, so he then became live and should have been given offside! But the ref continued with play and hart made a smart save, countinho had one in the first half too

I think everyone can see that we gave you the hardest game you've ever had at the Etihad. 2-1 the final score was. Not 4-1, not 5-1, not 7-0.

And it isn't even the scoreline. Up until the final whistle we could have equalised and had chances. We matched you in everything you did.

I think the reason why everyone's impressed is because this period for us has been labelled as being "the test". The point where we see just how good we really are. And on THAT performance, id say a) we're one of the most exciting teams to watch, and b) if we can keep that level of performance up. We're in a really good position for top four and possibly even more.

We're playing with NO fear. We took the game to you guys.

Bring on Chelsea! We're going to fuck all over Mourinho's record at the Bridge.

P.S boy am I looking forward to the return leg at Anfield

Not like a dipper to have illusions of grandeur...

does stering miscontrol and get a touch after going round hart? are both players behid hart ? cant keep up with the offside rule
They were both onside when the original through ball was played (by Suarez?). After that, as long as the player receiving the pass doesn't get himself in front of the player passing the ball, they're okay.

True.

Penalties for shirt pulling?

There would be 15 penalties a match if they were given.

We were good in stages and average in stages and nowhere near our best. Liverpool I suspect were close to their best.

However they did play well and did give us a game and in my opinion will be top 4 come the end of the season.

Liverpool fan here just some thoughts about the match and the offside situations that has been discussed over the last few pages.

Coutinho was behind the ball when he "received" it from Sterling, so he clearly was onside. Same goes to Sterling's goal against Cardiff, he was aligned (is that how you say it?) at worst. Watch MOTD from last week, they stopped the action both occasions (Henderson passes to Suarez, Suarez passes to Sterling), it wasn't offside.

About our performance. Some of you said we played "out of our skin" and you weren't at your best, yet you beat us. Firstly I don't think you can separate these two and say you'd have humiliated us should you played the way you did before. You couldn't play yout best football mainly beacuse of the way we pressed, not just because your players had an off day. You could say Arsenal played attacking football too, which is true, but their pressing was awful that day compared to ours. Secondly, we did not play "out of our skin". We did well as a team, but none of our players had a good game personally, let alone play out of their skin. Coutinho, for example, is still searching himself and missed an absolute sitter, Sterling also. Kompany kept Suarez quiet too. It's a compliment to the Belgian as well of course but still, Suarez could've played better (even if he created a few for his teammates, he was far from his best). Our midfield also did well together, but none of them played at their best, all made bad choices in front of the goal, and Lucas, for example, had 1 tackle all in all. Hardly a great performance. Defensively we were as shaky as always, maybe more, and Mignolet did awful at both of your goals. My point is that while we did ok overall, worked hard and our tactics was spot on, it was far from our best performance this season, we could've played better.

It was a good game, don't get me wrong, but I think neither team played as well as they could have. I feel a draw would've been a more fair result, but you did just enough to see us off, and we weren't clinical enough to take a point, so a deserved win overall. You play some fantastic football, have a great squad and a clever manager so when you win the league in May (and I'm pretty sure you will), it will be fully deserved.
Good luck fro the rest of the season.

does the goalkeeper play any part in the offside rule or not then i thought if you were behind him you were off or has all that changed ?

If you are behind the ball you are onside

Previous 3 City games where Lee Mason was ref

Spurs 3 City 1

Man City 0 Liverpool 1 League Cup

Swansea 1 Man City 0

The last two were in the title winning season. He gave a penalty in each game (Swansea missed theirs). I think in three City games he reffed he gave two of only five penalties awarded against us during the whole of that season. The other game mason reffed that season was 0-0 at West Brom, when a City goal was disallowed.

If he's biased in favour of City I'd hate to see one who was biased against us.

To be fair to Suarez he has cut a lot of the diving out.
We made him resort to that on the edge of the box so should be happy in a way.
Lescott needs to stop copying Skrtle or whatever the spelling is.

Great win, Liverpool will do top 4 easy if they keep that up.

so if a serial killer stopped killing so many people it would be alright ???

If you get my drift..

a lot has been said about theoffside goal that didnt stand .but without seeing it back is the lad that puts the ball inthe net after sterling miscontrols after going round hart off side ? ie is he behind hart ?
Liverpool goal was OFFSIDE by my replaying.
When the ball is passed Coutinho is in an offside position.
Can someone watch the replay in slo-mo and back us up?

Read the rules
