City v Liverpool Post Match Thread

From now on I don't really give a stuff how we play, if we grind out 20 wins and also grind out wins in the LC, UCL and FA cup which sees us winning pots at the end surely that is all that matters. Further if we do put in good performances that will IMO be a bonus. I don't care is that first goal was onside or not or whether Liverpool got the wrong decisions that has happened to us so many times I have ceased worrying about it.

For the press, media and so called pundits they can all fuck off.

Abso fuckin lutely.

Any Blue on here who feels the dippers were hard done to then light them a fuckin candle

Liverpool fan here just some thoughts about the match and the offside situations that has been discussed over the last few pages.

Coutinho was behind the ball when he "received" it from Sterling, so he clearly was onside. Same goes to Sterling's goal against Cardiff, he was aligned (is that how you say it?) at worst. Watch MOTD from last week, they stopped the action both occasions (Henderson passes to Suarez, Suarez passes to Sterling), it wasn't offside.

About our performance. Some of you said we played "out of our skin" and you weren't at your best, yet you beat us. Firstly I don't think you can separate these two and say you'd have humiliated us should you played the way you did before. You couldn't play yout best football mainly beacuse of the way we pressed, not just because your players had an off day. You could say Arsenal played attacking football too, which is true, but their pressing was awful that day compared to ours. Secondly, we did not play "out of our skin". We did well as a team, but none of our players had a good game personally, let alone play out of their skin. Coutinho, for example, is still searching himself and missed an absolute sitter, Sterling also. Kompany kept Suarez quiet too. It's a compliment to the Belgian as well of course but still, Suarez could've played better (even if he created a few for his teammates, he was far from his best). Our midfield also did well together, but none of them played at their best, all made bad choices in front of tha goal, and Lucas, for example, had 1 tackle all in all. Hardly a great performance. Defensively we were as shaky as always, maybe more, and Mignolet did awful at both of your goals. My point is that while we did ok overall, worked hard and our tactics was spot on, it was far from our best performance this season, and we could've played better.

It was a good game, don't get me wrong, but I think neither team played as well as they could have. I feel a draw would've been a more fair result, but you did just enough to see us off, and we weren't clinical enough to take a point, so a deserved win overall. You play some fantastic football, have a great squad and a clever manager so when you win the league in May (and I'm pretty sure you will), it will be fully deserved.
Good luck to the rest of the season.

You did press well, but so have some other teams.

You were more dangerous than most because of Suarez.

The difference in City's performance is that although teams usually create chances against us, when we get in positions of 3 v 3 etc by successfully pressing in their half, we usually pick out better options & score goals. Against Liverpool, we started to turn over a lot of ball in their half round about an hour, but constantly cocked up the final pass when easier options were open.

Had we done the same v Arsenal, that too would have been very close. They caused us many more problems than you did & scored three goals.

The difference is that we were more clinical v Arsenal & cashed in when they were pressed into mistakes.

The idea that had Liverpool scored again at any time, they would have got at least a point is also interesting. In both games, we went up a level when we needed to, & scored again.

Dodgy refereeing decisions, its all swings and roundabouts!

We could go back to Alf Grey in 1981 League Cup semi versus Liverpool. He cost City a place in the final. And who was that twat who gave a penalty at Anfield against Micah Richards for handball in a more recent semi?

Alf Grey! Football fans never forget!

It was a shocking decision mind ;-)

I am pleased with the result,a bit nervous heading into the match. Their goal should've stood, but then again,we should've had at least 3 penalties for Skrtl nearly undressing Kompany,so I guess the incidents even themselves out. Also,it wasn't the ref's fault completely for the offside,it was more the linesman's fault.

Anyway,I felt we got sliced open a bit too easily at times, and thank goodness Zaba was back at RB,otherwise it would've been quite dangerous. Hart was excellent. Player ratings (myopinion) in view of the game:

Hart----8.5/10 - Very solid,amazing saves,especially to deny Coutinho.
Zabaleta-7.5/10---Good performance, gave us a lot of width. He looked a bit tired and injured, but got back well defensivly on most occasions
Kompany -8.5/10 - Another standout performance. Led the defense well. Scored the equalizer and always dangerous from corner. I liked a comment from one of the commentators @Vincent Kompany-a real leader of men"
Lescott-7/10-- Helped Kompnay stop Suarez. Got exposed due to lack of pace, gbut glad he played as did some vital interceptions/clearences
Kolarov - 7/10 Ok performance. Good delevring crosses, but beaten too easily at times
Yaya--7.5/10 Not as commanding as vs Arsenal and Tottenham, but did well starting attacks, and had a part to play in the 2nd goal, and I think his shot resulted in the corner for the first goal
Dinho ---7/10--Solid performance,stop Liverpool playing.
Navas ---7.5/10 Was very bright in the first half. Got assist for 2nd goal. A bit quieter in the second half
Nasri ---7/10 - Got back defensivly at times. Not at this best though
Silva ---7/10 - Looked fatigued, and wasn't at his sparkling best
Negredo - 8/10 - Good game for la bestia. Another goal, which was a brilliant shot. It wasn't such a howler by Mignolet,as the pure power he hit it by caught him off guard.

Milner - 7/10 Good to help defensivly and keep the ball
Dzeko - 7/10 Not bad,but was left pretty isolated up top near the end
Javi Garcia- Came to shore up defense

It was a pretty interesting game,I think Liverpool pressed us pretty well, and easily the hardest home game so far. But 3 points and we moved into 2nd,point behind Arsenal

Next - Palace

Liverpool have had more dodgy decisions in favour v City than any other team.

I remember a draw at Anfield when we had a hat trick of goals wrongly disallowed, Ian Rush punching in an equaliser on one occasion, George Courtney refusing to send off Burrows for a blatant last man foul then awarding two penalties to Liverpool, from 40 yards away, it goes on & on & on through decades.

They have no right to make an issue of anything.

I think everyone can see that we gave you the hardest game you've ever had at the Etihad. 2-1 the final score was. Not 4-1, not 5-1, not 7-0.

And it isn't even the scoreline. Up until the final whistle we could have equalised and had chances. We matched you in everything you did. I think the reason why everyone's impressed is because this period for us has been labelled as being "the test". The point where we see just how good we really are. And on THAT performance, id say a) we're one of the most exciting teams to watch, and b) if we can keep that level of performance up. We're in a really good position for top four and possibly even more.

We're playing with NO fear. We took the game to you guys.

Bring on Chelsea! We're going to fuck all over Mourinho's record at the Bridge.

P.S boy am I looking forward to the return leg at Anfield

No you didnt.. we had more possession, more shots, and more goals...the one thing you did more of was shirt pulling!!
Nosferatu 3-Lescott 1.
