City v Real Madrid post match

We've saved our best performances of the season for CL away matches. We were just fortunate to play those matches first against Kiev and PSG (and Sevilla, technically). If you look at last nights game in comparison to the home performances against Kiev and PSG, they are quite similar. The script is already written. Don't concede at home and push for an away goal in the reverse fixture. Sterling needs positive minutes this weekend. Pellers must give him the start on Sunday. KDB must play centrally for 90 minutes next Wednesday and Navas and Sterling must start on the wings. I'd say give the ladyboy the start for the spanish scum. His lack of defensive effort will only help city on the counter attack (provided he doesn't score of course!). I heard some statistic that every time he scores against city, his team lose. Don't know if it is true, but I sure hope so!

Last nights result can only be critically judged after next Wednesday. If we get a 1-1 draw, all will look back at yesterday's result and call it a "mature" or "coming-of-age" result by city.

Exactly. Hindsight is a wonderful thing ;-)

I thought they were a pair of whinging tw@ts if I'm honest, both of them wound me up with their constant moaning at the referee.
Our support never ceases to surprise me, just as we got back in the car there was an idiot on 5live saying that he'd prefer Pearce or Hughes as manager to Pellegrini (no seriously, he probably posts on here !).

Best result other than nicking a late winner :)

I thought they showed us a lot of respect, especially at the start, and I thought we caught them a little by surprise with our pressing game.

I hope not, especially Sergio. I think in KdB's case, he tried a lot of hollywood passes, but if one had come off, we might have been even happier, so I don't blame him for trying them.

I heard that person on 5Live; made me think of a former poster on here.

Big Joe is great on penalties. We should play 1-9-1.

If it is 0-0 after 90 mins does it go to extra time and if we score in the extra time does that count as a normal away goal. I.e if it was 0-0 after 90 mins and 1-1 after extra time would it go to pens or would we win on away goals?
We go through....

This is how i see it. We are still well and truly in this. I dont care if we win on pens. We got the formation and tempo spot on to start with and it was only injuries and players tiring that was swinging it slightly in their favour at the end. We need to regroup and go again, if its still nil nil at half time over there then the pressure starts to mount on them. I fancy us to nick it if we can keep the cleen sheet and the first 30mins of last night tells me that we can do that.

Agreed, the longer they go without scoring in the second leg the more the pressure builds on them. The worst thing we can do is concede early, but if we can score the first goal I think we can do it.

Bale and Marcelo were excellent too I thought. Those three oozed class. Overall I thought the draw was the fair result and I'm genuinely shocked to see how many of our supporters think it was a poor result and that we've made it hard for ourselves in Spain. For me that was the BEST result we could've hoped for. Personally I think if we'd scored a goal Madrid would probably have gone up a level (felt they played within themselves) and got the away goal. As it stands now they have to come out at the Bernabeau which they'd do anyway, but it'll mean that we will have spaces on the break. Also think that Kun and KDB can't play much worse than they did last night (touch wood!).

My pre-match view, not expressed on here, was that a clean sheet was the number 1 priority.

I think they will be a different proposition in Madrid but City can raise their game further too.

Going into the game I said that any draw, as long as it wasn't too high scoring, would be an excellent result for us. I didn't think we'd keep them out, but I didn't think they'd keep us out either. As it happened, injuries to Ronaldo and Benzema and our forward players being a bit out of sorts ended up giving us the perfect draw.

Apparently Ronaldo has a muscle tear meaning theres no chance of him playing in Spain. If he doesn't play, I'd make us favourites for that tie.

If that's true then it puts us in with a very good chance indeed but it just smells like Ferguson to me.

He said himself that he would have played if it had been a final. Can't see the point in bullshitting us that he might play, as it just gives us a boost if he doesn't, but there is good psychological reasoning for making out he can't play, then he does.

Bale can be a game changer but Ronaldo is even more of one so if he remains absent, it won't harm our chances. Either way, we need to deny such players space to turn and run plus work hard to cut their supply lines.
