City v Shakhtar Post Match

Pretty decent game last night, was pretty impressed with Shakhtar in the first half, they were very organised and set up well, probably the best we've faced this season. Great game from Delph and Stones continues to grow in confidence. Onto the next one!

Yeah, I was impressed with Shakhtar too. Much better than I thought they were going to be, although having already beaten a very good Napoli side perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised. Their number 10 (Bernard?) looked a great little player.

Did anyone else notice pep getting rather angry at fans for leaving early when we were only the 1 goal up? I understand people leaving early if the game is done and dusted but thought it was rather poor people left at that stage

AS annoying as it is - it's not a behaviour we will be able to change - its frustrating but what can we or Pep do

Whilst I never leave early, the ones that do have in their eyes a good reason; they may have a long journey and those 5mins could make a big difference, they may be older and / or infirm. I sit close to a guy who is in his 70's not best on his feet and has a 3 hour journey should he be called-out? Then there is the dash to get the final train home which especially when its an 8'00pm kick off can be very marginal.

I suppose the one single thing that would make a huge difference is for the region to get a decent transport infrastructure, which will wont happen as long as the government are obsessed with spending £Bs saving a few people 20 mins also know as high speed 1, 2, 3. When in reality they should be investing in industry to develop autonomous vehicles.

Its actually quite staggering how bad the transport system is.

I stayed to the end, walked back into town where I was parked and even at 10:15 pm at night the mancunian way and princess parkway was snarled up with slow moving traffic.

Tool me an age to reach the motorway network and then its 50 mile an hour zones for the best part of the first 20 miles on the M6. Finally rolled in at around 2:20am.

When you consider the time and that only a fraction of our support will be using this artery to go home its incredible what an adverse effect a bit of football traffic can have on a transport system designed to serve a modern city which is under going huge expansion.

Exactly mate
I never leave the match early but yesterday I left with three minutes to go as I had to pick my nine year old daughter up from dukinfield and then drive onto west Yorkshire where she then has to get up early for school the next day via the breakfast club as both myself and my wife work in manchester, so leaving those couple of minutes earlier makes all the difference.poor public transport is definitely a issue for a lot of early leavers as wee

There are some who have long journeys yes, but I struggle to believe the majority are leaving early for anything other than to shed 20 mins off their journey time
You are right though, the crux of the matter is that the public transportation and roads are a joke in this country

It is a combination of the transport system and the fact we live in a very fast moving society where people feel like they cannot waste a second.

It seems obvious to me that Pep is not always best pleased with our fanbase, the booing, the leaving early, the lack of engagement at times. Let's hope it doesn't sway him when discussing a contract extension. At the very minimum, the booing has got to stop. If there was justification for it in the past, that boat has long since sailed.

No one giving him any plaudits (and I’ve already sung Sterling’s, Delph’s, and Ederson’s praises in their threads) so here you go:

I thought, despite not getting on the “important” stats sheet, Gabriel played very well last night. He was very intelligent with his runs, held up play very well, was strong in the air (he took down several long balls from Ederson under intense pressure to keep possession and keep things moving forward), and created a lot of space for the other players. I think he wore their defenders down with his movement and cleverness, which really helped Bernardo and Sterling when they came on. You could tell he was disappointed to come off when he did as he knew we were starting to expose their soft underbelly (could you imagine him missing that low cross from KDB) but he took it as the professional that he is. He is an old head on a young man’s body, which is the biggest compliment you can pay him.

I think his “under the radar” performances deserve more attention.

It was a good test, a team that surprised us
Can't say I was surprised, they are a good side, and play football, I liked how they defended so high up the pitch, it made it hard for us, and set them up well to break on us, and we didn't have the space we normally do. In my opinion that is a good thing as it made us adapt to get the game won, which we did admiraly.
