City v Spurs, Etihad Stadium, Friday 8th November, 7.30pm

I know who she is and I’m not referring to her on co commentary. I’m referring to all the waffle from the ‘guests’ during the game, about non football issues, such as Take That, and Gary Barlow. I assume you didn’t hear it. Not good to hear at all.
Yeah, I misunderstood you, happy to apologise. I did hear them, they were not good at all. Not for us, but they are somehow very popular with a lot of the women football followers.

Yes she’s not the required standard.

I also don’t think Fowler is.

Kelly needs to get back firing and in Taylor’s good books as when she’s on it she’s the best wide player (except Hemp of course) we have.

Disagree on Fowler.

When she's on her game, she's as good as anyone in the team. her problem is consistency and she can't be consistent being moved around positions on the forward line.

Personally, I think she's better behind the striker where she links up play or slide rule/ reverse passes really well than she is out on the wing.

Fowler is an outstanding player. And as already mentioned, her natural position is behind Shaw, not at the wing. But with all the players we have now, our genius coach will never dare, he just doesn’t have the courage, to play her in her natural position. That said, even when she plays peripherally, she still shows how gifted she is. I believe that if Fowler didn’t get enough playing time this season, she will leave and won’t be surprised if she ended up in Barcelona or a similar club.

As for Kelly, I am surprised that some ppl forgot, or ignored, how poor she has been the last couple of seasons, and in fact she is still poor. I mostly disagree with the coach’s decisions, but I agree she shouldn’t be in the starting lineup anymore. Whenever she comes on, she plays for her own fame and not for the team. For her own sake, she should have moved on this season, but I guess football is not her priority anymore. In other words, being a substitute at City or in the starting lineup at another club doesn’t make much difference for her. By the way, Kelly used to be one of my favorites, but I think her time is over at City, and we need to move on from her.

Is Fowler though (an outstanding player)…? That’s high praise indeed.
She constantly flatters to deceive in my view.

You can tell she’s a very intelligent footballer but I think she’s in the Rico Lewis mode where just because she sees the bigger picture doesn’t mean she can always execute what she wants to do.
Disappears so often in games. Needs to improve her physicality as well.

Great point you make though about her being moved around the forward line and not being allowed to settle in her favoured position.
For me though, even if that were to happen she’d not be someone I think we could rely on each week to play to a constant high level and run games.

I just wish we had a team full of Hemps ha.

I think there's been some revisionism with her career since the Euro's win with England. Yes, she's been a good player for us over the years but not really elite imho. Don't forget that she was mostly used as a sub in that tournament with Beth Mead selected ahead of her. The fact that she scored that goal and the penalty have elevated her profile far beyond what her game levels really are. I appreciate what she has given to this club and also that she hasn't gone whining to the press because she's not an automatic selection but at the moment she doesn't deserve a starting spot ahead of others who are contributing more with their time on the pitch. If she wants to regain that spot then she has to put the work in for the team with the limited minutes that she's been getting.

Sorry my post you replied to was about Fowler, not Kelly. I’ve updated the post to reflect that.

Appreciate your points about Kelly though.

In my opinion, Fowler is an outstanding player IF she gets to play in her natural position, behind the striker. She can distribute and play through balls to the frontline and striker. She can connect the midfield with the attack. She can score goals. Also, when needed, she can help the midfield with defending. She already does this at the wing, yet she sometimes struggles because she is not well equipped to play peripherally. She does all these tasks more efficiently when she plays in her natural position for Australia, and she is only 21. I like Rico, but he can’t do any of this at any satisfactory levels, and maybe also because he is only 19 and will show his hidden skills when he finds his best position, but that is a different story. Back to Fowler, I don’t recall the coach has ever let her play in her natural position. Almost always at the wing, and rarely a striker when he takes Shaw out. This coach is such a genius who loves to make players play out of their natural positions. The first I recall was Rose Lavelle whom he kept playing mostly for a few minutes and out of her natural position. She struggled and was looking forward to leaving City and the genus. Among the current players, Hasegawa and Alexiandri play in different positions for their countries, and they just excel. But because they are exceptional talent and among the top 10 players worldwide now, they also excel wherever the genius chose for them to play. My guess, Fowler will eventually leave because of the coach to get her chances somewhere else. She won’t be the first or the last talent to leave because of the coach.
