City vs Bayern Munich Post match Thread

I'm afraid Pellegrini got this horribly, totally wrong. Allowing Bayern an extra man in midfield was always courting absolute disaster. Doing nothing at all about it was completely clueless. Admittedly Joe sent out an invitation after 7minutes to them to play the game they love , but the only response of the manager was to look at his watch to see how much longer the agony was to last! Agreed Bayern are a great side , and City gift wrapped all three goals, but this is the manager brought in to improve our performances in Europe. We may be lucky that we are in a group with Plzen and Moscow, but Mancini never presided over an abject shambles such as this.

spot fucking on.... 442 with Dzeko strolling round up front..... just totally open to be humiliated in Midfield

Not gone through the misery of reading through the thread.

We were simply outclassed. Bayern didn't allow us to play. They looked like they had 22 players and showed us what we need to aspire to in a few years' time. That team is light years ahead of anything in this country.

In the meantime maybe we should be a bit more humble and not get carried away when we put together a couple of decent performances.

We won't play a team as good as Bayern until we play them away. All three of their goals were down to errors we made. But they played us off the park for near enough the entirety of the match. Should have stuck another midfielder on earlier, but hey ho.

Course it does. If the Bayern players hadn't played with the desire to work and run and press we'd have had a far more comfortable evening. Sure he got the tactics wrong, but that doesn't excuse the lack of balls shown by our players - games like that, desire and bravery become arguably even more important than otherwise, and we were found to be painfully lacking.

Fine, i concede, play with 11 Milners and we would have won. Hands down spanked them with bravery.
fair enough, that's obviously a misunderstanding. Clear from the post earlier that I don't mean bravery to just be the willingness to run around (and I'm very rarely in favour of having Milner, despite his qualities, in the starting line-up) - Silva showed plenty of bravery when he came on by wanting the ball all the time, in tight areas, while the rest were hiding all night, frightened of getting the ball, frightened of trying to press.
As I said, of course the tactics were crucial, but the difference in mentality between the the two teams was frightening
Bayerns movement is absolutely outstanding, we just stand still 90% of the game and hope something happens.
The amount of times we were caught offside was ludicrous, which shows a lack of concentration, movement and effort.
We're not barca yet insist on trying to replicate them, even though the tactics they employ have been found out by teams exactly like bayern.

We need to rethink our style of play.

Not having that mate, the manager got his tactics very wrong and there was a lack of desire in the ream, Chelsea held these to a draw and lost on penalties

Nobody is arguing about bayern being a different class, but surely we should be that bad with the players we had. We may aswell have just rolled over.

Manuel set out an attacking line up aiming to win the game, this is a Spanish trait, in Spain teams rarely set up for a draw even when playing the 'super clubs' because the overriding philosophy is that one win is worth three draws and that if you set out to park the bus teams like Barca/Real inevitably find a way to unpick you.
It's a myth that 2 strikers equals more attacking though. I'd be happy for us to have a go at them, but you need to have the ball for that. Bayern were attacking us all game with only one proper striker on the pitch.

In every conceivable department, we were totally outclassed. It could've been 10. Why play 2 strikers against Bayern. WHY?

completely outclassed, our tactics were appalling and we were lucky to only lose 3-1, At least silva and negrado looked good when they came on.

Unfortunatly,we are lying to ourselves to let us think that.
We "looked good" because they subbed Schwensteiger, and Robben, and Riberry. We were fighting against the B-team at first gear, mate.

I agree mate, it was actually hard to watch that tonight.

Not strictly true, the extra man in midfield made things much better. Change should have been made after half an hour. Would have been totally different game.
