This pretty much sums up the reaction to last night from the media:

Honestly Smithers, I don't even know why Harvard even bother to show up - they barely even won

Do you all really think that ref had a good game?
Lewandowski's 'foul' for their first goal was the most blatant dive I've seen in ages.
Not to mention plenty of other decisions.
I was shocked that the ref actually applied the law for Agüero's penalty, and then thought we might have a decent ref.
However, it was the usual decisions later in the game. A Villa fan watching with me even couldn't believe some of the decisions.

Yes I did think the ref had a good game and was one of the best we have had over the years in this competition.Anyone who thinks that any ref should get 100% correct decisions needs to wake up.He was far better than most PL refs I`ve seen of late.

Haha, brilliant! Thanks for clearing that one up. I had no idea I was so naive to think that every ref should get 100% of the decisions correct. Of course I don't. What I do expect is every ref to be fair, and not to be consistently conned by diving and cheating. A ref who will not give the opposition free kicks when our player has cleanly won the ball (see Clichy's booking, Ribery's dive, Lewandowski's dive, etc.).
The fact that grown men, who've been watching football for years, can be duped into thinking the ref had a good game because (1) he gave us a penalty and (2) he was 'better' than most PL refs of late....amazes me. Would you have still said that had we failed to win the game?
He may have been better than others we've had lately, but he still had a bad game.

A simple question. Were you actually at the game ?

Is it me but I thought we played quite well last night. This was Bayern - We bossed most of the 2nd half and we were doing ok until they had the free kick

No, they bossed us with 10 Players and had youth Players in their Team. And their main Players were injured , and some rested in the Reserves, in a Game which for them is a friendly.

I hope we dont see them in quarter final or something, I rather face Barcelona or Chelsea than them.

We were tactically good, we defended 5metres deeper the normal, we defended as a unit for once, we chased hard and restricted Bayern to few shots...we were poor on the ball. We gave it away for fun and we had a man extra. Navas is frustratingly wasteful, Milner had an unusually poor game, Fernando (absolutely worked his bollocks off) gave the ball away an awful lot.

We also didn't create a shooting chance for the first 19 minutes of the second half and that was very frustrating.

We did well, we defended well, we played quite poorly with the ball.

The ref was top class last night.

We won't get a more impartial ref for the rest of the season.

There seems to be a small element both on the forum and in the media who are angry that we turned things around and won the match. They seem angry that they can't wake up this morning and laugh at City for being out of the CL and bottom of their group. Angry that Bayern didn't wipe the floor with us. Frustrated that our striker did the job he's paid to do and bury easy chances when they came his way. Pissy that we defended with purpose and hunger.

These people are making me smile and laugh a lot this morning. Lets go to Rome, beat them, then go on and win the whole fucking thing this season. It might just be written already. :)

Just because some people don't go with a safer opinion for bluemoon liking here doesn't mean that there unhappy about the result there just to honest ,I was of the same opinion that we didn't played well and got labeled as a rag for first time after being on this forum for 2.5 years ,people say pep teams dominate possession but if they dominate and control the game they did up unitill 85 min with 10 men than something is not right ,we were good in a way we contained the threat of Ribery and robern but that's about it ,but football ain't just about defending its also about attacking and our creativity was hardly there

I saw your post last night mate. I didn't agree with it at the time and I still don't. You need to be able to make a distinction between dominate and control. They didn't dominate anything. They controlled the ball for long periods in safe areas where they were of no danger to City. We were happy to let them do that.

In terms of our attacking play, we had a plan. A clear plan which revolved around Sagna/Navas and Nasri/Clichy using the space Bayern leave behind their full backs. We did that extremely well, only for our delivery to fall short. However I'd say that Navas found more space, was more dangerous, than both Robben and Ribery combined.

Similarly it was clear that Lampard in particular was told to look for Kun early, which he did to excellent effect causing Bayern to go down to 10 men and for us to win a penalty. Again that wasn't luck, and it wasn't particularly amazing play from Sergio. It was about timing and a plan - the ball was timed perfectly and the space was there to run into. In many ways I'd have preferred Benatia not to commit that foul and for Kun to have scored. Once they lost a man, Bayern defensive line dropped 10 yards deeper which changed the pattern of play because there was suddenly less space for us to exploit.

Some of the posts I'm reading are way wide of the mark and would make more sense after a performance like Bayern at home last season or Real Madrid at home the season before. Two matches in which we were absolutely dominated and were lucky to not lose by bigger margins.

Absolutely fantastic assessment. What we did, is what everyone on here has being crying out for, we amended our tactics to address the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition. In many ways, it was like watching us against one of the lower teams in the premier league where we have suffered a surprise defeat.

I dont remember Chelsea getting a slagging when they played defensive all game against Barca the year they won the champs league or the rags when they were totally outplayed against Bayern in the final when they won it,

IMO we made 2 mistakes for the goals
1-hart made a balls up of arranging the wall
2- kompanys jump was all wrong, because of his body shape
Ok we made 2 mistakes and we got punished, yet bayern made 3 yet we are still made out to be lucky.isnt it all part and parcel of the game.the media are just so feckin bitter.
Has Martin Samuel said anything yet as he is the only journo who would give an honest view.

Now this is what I call constructive criticism. NO we're shit, an embarrassment etc.
Some should take note of this post.
