My son is hoping to make the 9 hour road trip from Pennsylvania to get a fix of live football. He moved over to the USA just before this season started so he hasn't seen a game in the flesh since May13th last year.
Tickets for the soccer match between Chelsea and Manchester City at Busch Stadium on May 23 sold out within minutes of going on sale at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.
"I think if we had a 100,000-seat stadium, we could have sold it out," said Vicki Bryant, vice president of event services and merchandising for the Cardinals, who's overseeing the event. "We expected it to sell out, but I don't think we expected it to sell out in minutes. ... Quite frankly, we're blown away by the demand. This is the kind of demand you would get for Game 7 of the World Series."
The Cardinals had a presale for season-ticket holders on Monday — Bryant termed the response there "great" — and then opened the sale to the general public on Tuesday morning. They didn't last long.
"Within a matter of minutes," Bryant said. "Within the first 20 minutes, the tickets were gone. Within the first five to 10 minutes, everything was locked up and transactions were in progress. The beauty of ticketing systems today is they can process thousands at one time. When we opened at 10 a.m., there were thousands of transactions simultaneously. It took only minutes to get them accounted for."
In addition to being sold online, tickets also went on sale at the team's box office. Bryant said they tried to be proactive, going outside to tell people in line that if they weren't in the first two or three, the tickets would probably be gone by the time they got to the front of the line and they should head to either the Busch Stadium ticket kiosks or get online somehow.
The Cardinals sold standing room only seats and limited view seats and, as of Tuesday afternoon, there was nothing left. Bryant said some seats could still become available from teams or from group holds. "We encourage people to check back," she said. "If we get a considerable amount, we'll put the word out on Facebook or Twitter. We don't have any tickets at this point."
Bryant said that the team was also looking at any ways to fit more seats into the stadium for the game or sell tickets for seats they weren't planning to sell. Some temporary seats, for instance, are being put on the field.

Americans don't use that. StubHub and eBay is how to get tickets on the secondary market.

Damn! Minimum for restricted view is $160, with midfield 25th row going for $2000. Madness.
